Twin Block Braces

My daughter (age13) got her twin block braces a few months back . She has not worn them continuesly for 1 whole day ! She has friends with this type of brace so was aware of what they would look like and what you hadn't do when you had them (such as eating etc.). So , when she got her appliance , she wore it for ten minutes and then could not bear it . I know how difficult they can be, but I was not expecting this . She doesn't wear them to school , at home or to sleep. They make her gums bleed as they dig in and make her face look huge. I never had this type of appliance so didn't know what is was supposed to look like. She took some pictures of her friends twin blocks to compare them to hers and honestly I now understand why she doesn't wear them ! her blocks are St least a cm tall not including the metal and part that touches the top of your mouth ., and her friends (some of which go to the same ortho) have ones that are 5mm tall AT MOST including the part which touches the roof of their mouth. So pls tell me what I should do 🙏

My DD (12) got them at the end of Aug. She was so upset and cried all day about how they looked. That first night we were up from 3am-6am as she was in so much pain and the next day she was sick as I think the pain and tiredness all kicked in. We gave her paracetamol and Nurofen continuously for the first 4-5 days until she had gotten used to the brace. She only takes it out to eat. She was so conscious of the brace and taking it in/out at school that I sewed a brace box into her school pocket. Sadly the block brace just has to be worn as much as possible to do its job. We have given it our best shot (wearing all the time) and when we went back last week she was ready for fixed braces (she had an 8mm overbite). What I’m trying to say really is that it’s really sore for the first week but if you can get over that then the pain eases. My DD got her ears pierced as I know the braces look bad, but sadly it’s just one of those things. It will all be worth the agony and looks when at 16 she has the most beautiful straight teeth. Try and persevere with bribery! Good Luck
