My little man is really suffering with either colic or silent reflux I’ve tried everything including stuff from gp even changing his milk he never gets a moment peace bless him he cries every time he is awake on a normal day I might get about a 20 min here and there with out him being in pain , how ever I do know a bath settles him a bit but I can’t really keep giving him baths through out the day or can I ? I’m back to doctors tomorrow because I’m getting a bit worried I mean I know this can be normal for new babies but I just think it’s extreme he is suffering everyday any other suggestions would be a great help thank you from a desperate gran

What symptoms does he have @nanny2023? Do they sound anything like these?

Parakeetamol · 22/10/2023 21:18

Probably cmpa. What milk has he been changed to, if it's just hydrolysed he will need to go to fully dairy free

nanny2023 · 23/10/2023 06:31

I’m using kendamil now x

Were the symptoms similar to those in the link @nanny2023?

Look into cmpa. The first milks contain broken down milk so some babies might still react to this and need the amino acid formulas which are completely dairy free so don't be surprised or disappointed if they are the same on a hypoallergenic formula.
Omperazole and lansoprazole are both good for babies with silent reflux especially if you have tried a thickener like gaviscon already.

My daughter had a horrible time up to 4 months due to a GP who didn't understand allergies so told me she categorical didn't have one when she meant lactose intolerance and cmpa. She also didn't give adequate reflux treatment keeping us on a low dose when we should have been on a high dose. My daughter has particularly difficult reflux but even so we go her symptoms under much better control with the combination of dairy (+others) free diet for me (I breastfed), gaviscon and high dose omperazole.

Rub his tummy clockwise. It helps for me as an adult. Poor little soul, it's agony.

Our DD had silent reflux, which was linked to a tongue-tie (swallowing in air, breastmilk coming up, drinking more to sooth, more air etc. etc.). Wishing you all the best.

I really feel for you. My eldest was like this and it was so hard. It got significantly better at about 11 weeks, although he was a grumpy little thing until about 6 months. He's now the most delightful 5 year old.

Things that helped:
Keeping upright as much as possible
Really thorough winding after feeds
Bicycle legs
Dummy
