My daughter is 2, we look after her teeth religiously. Brushing 2-3 times a day etc. Within the last few days one of her front teeth has started turning black?! Nothing around the gum etc the tooth is just discolouring, and rapidly.

Any help appreciated? TIA.

The tooth is dying you need to take her to the dentist today, as an emergency appointment. She has likely knocked it.

See the dentist as per pp. My DC fell and smacked a front tooth hard and it moved slightly in the socket, which caused the tooth to discolour to slightly grey. The dentist said it was the nerve root dying due to the damage and this is probably what has happened to your DD.

This happened to my brother as a child, he had hit his mouth on something and it just killed the root. The dentist just left them to fall out naturally and his adult teeth were totally fine. I would get to a dentist asap though to check it over.
Has she had any knocks or bumps in the last few weeks?

She hasn't had any bumps that have stood out in the last few weeks however she did have a bump around a day or two ago? Would it be discolouring that quickly? She's not in any pain with it which is a good thing. Is there any saving it at all?! X

I'm also a cosmetic dentist would you believe.
The tooth would have encountered trauma at some point, maybe months ago. Provided there is no pain or swelling on the gum above the tooth it can be left until it falls out naturally. If there is an abscess it may need to removed or have a baby root canal under sedation as the infection can damage the underlying my tooth. (Baby root canal is often only done privately and the tooth will still look dark.)

By way of explanation of what happened, easiest way to explain is the blood vessels within the tooth burst as a result of trauma and leaves a dark scab within the tooth. If it is blushing pinky grey then there is a chance it will rebound back to white but may just look more opaque.

Generally not much can be done and not much needs to be done, other than watch and wait.
Do see a dentist though to clinically examine it.
