Scarlet Fever - Vomiting?

Hoping someone can help

I took my DS to out of hours GP Saturday (he's just shy of 2yrs) as he had high temp and had been sick a few times from Friday afternoon. I would usually have have given it a few days but he was utterly miserable and temp didn't really shift with calpol

By the time we got there he had a rash over his tummy/chest and cheeks were also bright red. She said his glands were massively up, his throat was red raw, some spots on his tongue. Felt it was scarlet fever as she has seen a few cases in the area from nurseries the last few weeks. I asked about the vomiting and she said although it's not one of the top symptoms, it can be associated with it and little ones can often vomit if they have really sore throats.

So, my question! He started antibiotics Saturday lunch. His rash was gone the next day but was still fighting a low temp. But the VOMITING just won't stop. He has been sick 3/4 times a day, doesn't have an appetite and anytime he has a big drink or anything substantial it will come back up

The vomiting started Friday afternoon. I would have thought it would have eased now.

Did anyone else have vomiting episodes with SF?

Thanks in advance!

I can't comment specifically on SF, however I would be concerned with how much he's vomiting. Perhaps another visit to the GP as he's so little?

Antibiotics can also play havoc on tummies, especially if they aren't eating much to help line the stomach.

Very small sips of water/juice every few minutes to keep him hydrated would be ideal. Don't worry about him not eating much, Dr's are never really concerned with calories, they just want them drinking as much as possible to avoid issues with the kidneys. You could even try ice lolly to suck on to get more fluids into him.

I hope he's feeling better soon x

Yes as above I have vomited with antibiotics in the past and I'm not usually one to vomit. I have also vomited with tonsillitis.

Poor little lamb, make sure he stays hydrated but I'd ring the GP today for advice/reassurance.

Thanks both. He is actually drinking lots and wet nappies but definitely isn't hungry

I need to take a stool sample to the Gps as he's had a sickness bug on and off for month now so I did push that I wanted that too. Maybe I'll see if we can see GP while I'm there.

I did ask if he could have a coming but with SF which she said was possible but when he's had it previously it's lasted about 24 hours and this just seems never ending

He now has diarrhoea too as of this morning 😞

Oh dear, he's quite unwell isn't he. Definitely try and see the GP to put your mind at ease if anything.

It's good that he's drinking plenty. Sounds like he's got a nasty tummy bug though.

Fingers crossed he's on the up in a day or two x
