Threadworms - help!

My 7yo niece has come down with threadworms. She visits often and a week ago, my 4 month old was biting on her fingers (she's teething and does this a lot, always try to switch out to a teether when she starts doing this) so I'm pretty sure she has picked up some eggs. However the threadworm prevention treatment is only for 4 months onwards - I've got he Ovex liquid. I've washed bedding and I'm always washing hands. Today, she's had a bit of a dicky tummy with diarrhea and I'm worried she has it. Is there anything I can do? GP said he'd try giving me a callback appointment but didn't, and it's not exactly urgent.

Anyone had a baby under 6 months that developed threadworms? I'm so worried about it.

I’m new here. Sorry to hear this. Upset tummy is normal with teething. I hope your baby hasnt got it x

With three children and the third just having started reception, I feel like an old hand at this.

Firstly, do nothing. In my experience, the spread seems random. It has basically happened only once that any of mine caught them from each other, despite gnawing on each other's fingers daily and being soap dodgers. I wouldn't give the medicine unless you need to. Genuinely it might not have spread at all.

Secondly, I think it takes about five weeks to develop- and with a young baby that extra time would make a big difference.

Thirdly, you can tell. It's not diarrhoea. It's visible in a nappy. Or the baby would be uncomfortable at night (they get itchy bums).

This might be a complete non-issue for you.

Good luck!

Agree that a dicky tummy won't be an indicator of worms. Itchy, uncomfortable bottom and literally seeing the wriggly little buggers in their poo are the main symptoms!

You're doing nappies so you'll spot then quickly but probably won't even get them.
