Tourette Syndrome

I am childminding for my primary DGS (11). His DP are either on shift or away on a course (both medical professionals). I've been looking after him 3 days, another 3 to go and he's punched me 5 times! I know he can't help it but it's draining, as well as painful.
I try not to let him see me cry but last night he punched me in the face and I thought he'd broken my glasses. He was mortified and this just makes his tics worse.
I feel so sad for him because he has very few friends and has to have 121 at school, and has done for years, because the "normal" teacher can't cope and the pupils are scared.
Can someone reassure me that he will gradually grow out of his Tourette's or he will, at least, have less tics to live a "normal" life?

My son has Tourette’s so I am very sympathetic. It’s a life long condition, but some things help the severity of the tics. Anxiety, stress and lack of sleep exacerbate them, and I think there is a medication you can take when older that helps but I’ve not explored it yet. CBT also helps. If you watch the Lewis Capaldi documentary you’ll see that you can have a hugely successful life
with it but I know first hand how hard it can be ☹️Sending gentle hugs and also to say how helpful you are being to watch him- I wish I had someone to help watch my son X

Thank you and I send you Flowers and hugs.
You and my DD are doing great jobs; it is not an easy "illness".

I'd forgotten about the Lewis Capaldi documentary. I will watch when I return home.

My DGS is on a lot of medication (seems like that to me).

My DGS is so sad when he sees all the children going into school laughing together and he knows he can't join in.
