DS (5) had his first episode of VIW last night. Blue lights but he was fine with a couple of nebulisers and a salbutamol spacer. I’ve been reading about what can help (fastidious dusting, natural cleaning products) but personal experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Should add I called 111 and they sent an ambulance on blue lights after just a few questions.

I’d be asking the GP for a salbutamol inhaler.

My DD had that when she was 3. A trip to A and E and 10 puffs of inhaler sorted her out but it was a worrying time. She required the inhaler over the next few days until she was better, but has never had any breathing problems since.

I wondered if it was linked to damp in the house I lived in at the time. We moved house shortly after to a non-damp house and I've always wondered if it was linked.

My dd had this when she was 4, after a couple of days using the inhaler, she's been absolutely fine and never needed it again. She's 13 now.

My daughter was prescribed her own blue inhaler with a spacer, and we were given a sheet of info with how many puffs to give.

It's scary but you get to know when they need the inhaler and it's very effective.

It’s very reassuring to hear that for most of you it’s been a one off. Thanks for your responses.

My daughter had her first episode aged 2 and we were given a blue inhaler from the hospital, she's almost 4 now and is usually able to recognise when she needs it herself and will ask for it at home or at nursery. It's usually only really when she has a cold, she's outside in cold air or has been running around a lot.
