Chicken pox but vaccinated

Does anyone have experience of this? DD was vaccinated last year. Had a call from school today that they suspected chicken pox. Collected from school and she has a handful of red marks on her that are like small spots, not like the chicken pox blisters that I've seen before. I know it's still possible to get it despite being vaccinated but what does it look like? And what are the rules about her going back to school? Obviously she might wake up covered in blisters, but if it's just the same few spots without any blisters, can I send her?

You should Google mulloscum contagion, my little one had it and spots appeared on and off for months and every single healthcare professional I spoke to about it diagnosed chicken pox despite the fact that he was not remotely uncomfortable/itchy/unwell and the spots came and went repeatedly for a few months.
i can’t answer to the rest of your queries though.

Thank you, I've googled that and I wouldn't say they look like that, at least not at the moment.

My son has something similar at the moment and the gp has said it is a non specific viral rash. It's little red spots covering every inch of his body.

She really doesn't have many spots though. She has 3 on her face and then a small patch of 3 more on her leg, but they are very small, and no blistering on any of them.

Mine were both vaccinated and still got the pox ... Dr said that as cp is a virus there are different variants and the vaccine can't cover them all
Hopefully it will be mild

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/09/2023 10:46

Doesn't sound like chicken pox,odd.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 14/09/2023 11:12

Google Breakthrough Chicken Pox. 1 in 10 children who are vaccinated can get it. The spots don't really look like the blister type spots you get from chicken pox. It's a very mild form, and without the blister likely not as contagious.

Dd was vaccinated and ended up getting chickenpox when it's was doing the rounds at school, she only had about 5 or 6 spots though and felt fine in herself

usernotfound0000 · 14/09/2023 11:40

@Teapleasebobb what did you do about sending her back to school? As there are no blisters, I can't wait for them to scab over. I could take her to the GP but I would feel a complete fraud wasting a GP appointment on it!

Hard to picture but this is basically all she has.

It's hand foot and mouth.

DrFoxtrot · 14/09/2023 11:44

Agree likely hand foot and mouth

usernotfound0000 · 14/09/2023 11:47

Ah thanks! I hadn't considered that but yes, it could be.

My son had hand foot and mouth when he was about 12 months old, for the first two days they were just on his legs and then it started on his hands, feet, and mouth afterwards.

As luck would have it, I caught it from him 🫠 I just had them on my hands, feet, and mouth but the ones around my mouth looked like the picture of your daughter.

usernotfound0000 · 14/09/2023 11:58

I assume there's nothing for it? She isn't unwell in herself, not yet anyway, although she did complain of tummy ache yesterday and the day before, which she has done before when she's had something viral.

I was just coming on to say HFM too.. Grandson has it now...GP (he's only 7mths and was taken because his Mum couldn't get his very high temperature down) said CP almost always starts on the body and spreads but HFM usually starts on the face, legs and arms..
It's doing the rounds at the moment...
