I'm looking for plastic free, chemical free pads for my daughter. She doesn't want to use reusable, so looking for tried and tested products that are gentle in the skin, and the planet. Can anyone recommend? Thank you

i doubt you even get such things. She needs reusable ones if she doesn’t want chemicals and plastic.

The best and closest I've found is TOTM www.totm.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuv22146ogQMVCLztCh0SLAeYEAAYAiAAEgJcYfD_BwE

That looks great, thank you. Have you tried them?

I stand corrected. 🤣
But I would still encourage her to at least consider period pants or similar… they’ve been a life saver for many teens as you don’t need to deal with any bloody pads at all!!
If she is eco conscious then Reusing is always going to be better than period pads- after all it doesn’t matter whether they’re made of plastic crap or pure virgin cotton if they end up in landfill.

I find Natracare good when I use disposables, and they're quite widely stocked in eco-friendly shops so can be easy to pick up depending on where you live: Natural Pads for Periods - Natracare Products

@AmilyChestnut
Yes I've used TOTM, I used to use 'always' back in the day but when they made all their pads scented packets of thrush I had to move on.
TOTM are actually good, I need to change them slightly more often that I had to change Always, but otherwise I've been very happy with them.

We use Yoni pads which are pretty good but I am not quite convinced by how non toxic they are. They are however much softer and more comfortable and they work!

I came on to suggest Flo Bamboo period pads too - you can get them in bulk packages from Amazon which helps with the cost. I like the night ones as they’re a bit longer.

They are super silky and soft and also very thin but absorbent. They don’t get sweaty either which I hate about plasticky pads

LifeIsPeachy8 · 13/09/2023 19:17

The TOTM ones are perfectly fine although based on this thread I might try the bamboo ones!

(I don't get on with reusables and I had to ditch the expensive mooncup unfortunately!)

I saw these in holland and Barratt, but haven't tried them myself:

Thank you everyone. She's not eco conscious in the slightest, hence not wanting to use reusable.

I completely forgot about period pants! I'll have to look into those.

She suffers with painful periods so I don't want the chemicals to make it worse for her.

so use TOTM if i’m in a rush.
If i have time to order them, i get Flo.

Haggisfish3 · 13/09/2023 20:56

She should be able to get all these free from school. Schools can buy period pants, menstrual cups, organic and non organic towels and tampons and supply them all for free via the government scheme.
