Fever of 39 and sore tummy?

wobblymum1 · 12/09/2023 23:22

i know I need a dr
to answer this but I’m a single mum
up worrying so could do with a hand hold. Have a bad week with work so her being ill is
hard, her autistic brother has been really challenging this week with physical and verbal assualts to me
so I’m already running on empty and I hate
Her being unwell ☹️

So, instead of me sitting here fretting, what would
you think was wrong as
a mum?

DD seemed
ok today until she wouldn’t settle for bed saying everything felt uncomfortable which is often a sign with her she’s getting a temperature. She felt
hot
so I’ve just taken it and it’s 39, have given calpol and nurofen in hope it lets her sleep. She says her tummy is sore, no other symptoms.

she’s
prone to tonsillitis but her throat looks fine.

what’s it most likely to be?

Could just be the start of a bug but I'd be giving her stomach a good press and seeing if the pain is severe and if she winces or is in alot of pain when pressed as it could be appendicitis. I'd probably ring 111 just incase. It can start behind belly button then heads to the right, hopefully its not though. Hope she's ok x

Insheerpanic · 12/09/2023 23:37

Also hope you are ok too sounds like you've had a crappy week x

wobblymum1 · 12/09/2023 23:37

Thank you so Much. she’s not wincing when I press it but I’ll do that again later in case its worse. X

You’re so kind. It has been a bad week and I have a big report due tomorrow so having to look after her and work will be hard. It’s all just a bit hard ☹️X

Sending hugs to you. Been a mum is bloody tough especially when you're juggling so much and they're ill when you've already got alot on, hopefully you all get some sleep and shes ok xx

wobblymum1 · 12/09/2023 23:47

You’re so kind, thank you. Her temp is coming down on calpol and nurofen so hoping she’ll sleep soon and me too now you’ve made me feel calmer xx

How is she this morning? X

My 3 yo daughter had a temperature of 39 and complained of a tummy ache. It was an ear infection! She had no symptoms of an ear infection at all.

hdbs17 · 13/09/2023 08:05

My DS is also prone to tonsillitis and recently had a high temperature and kept complaining of a tummy ache, but throat was fine.

I took him to the GP to check for UTI as his appetite had been fine.

Turns out he had an ear infection 🤷‍♀️

We have lots of children off with temperature and stomach/headache this week.

Week 2 and the illness has already started it's rounds.

Hope she bounces back soon. It's not nice whatever it is.

wobblymum1 · 13/09/2023 20:41

Thank you all so much. I kept her home today and she seemed
pretty fine all day but hot again now. I feel nauseous and tired and think I’m running a temp too ☹️Guessing it’s a bug already hitting the schools ☹️

OP My DD is prone to tonsillitis and each time she gets a sore tummy, gp told me it’s the glands in their tummy. Hope she is better soon

Covidwoes · 13/09/2023 20:47

Hi @wobblymum1, it could be covid. My toe and a half year old has it, and only today did she point to her tummy and say 'hurts'. It was a GP who suggested checking, as she was running a fever with no obvious cause, and was refusing to drink (and hadn't weed in hours, which is why I rang the GP). The GP suggested to avoid the stress of testing, to swab a used tissue, rather than put the swab up her nose. It was positive in seconds. We were lucky we had tests in. I know nobody says to test, but to be honest I was getting worried about her lack of drinking, so knowing what the issue was put my mind at rest a bit! Hope your DD feels better soon.

wobblymum1 · 13/09/2023 20:56

Gosh this is so helpful! I’ll do a test as still have
some. Had no idea you could swab a tissue! She hates throat
swabs as has had
so
many this year for strep ☹️I hope
your DD feels better soon, it’s so scary
When they’re not drinking and eating ☹️Xx

thank you So much, I didn’t know this at all, I’ll be keeping an eye on her throat now xx

I didn't know either! Obviously a swab up the nose or down the throat is probably preferable, but my poor DD was already feeling awful, and at age 2, I didn't want to put her through it (or me!), so it was great the GP suggested to swab the used tissue. Honestly if I get any symptoms I'm tempted to do the same. 😂 I was surprised at how quickly the test turned positive.

She's on the mend, but her usually very good appetite, still isn't great. Her fever was also very high at the start (nearly 40C).

wobblymum1 · 13/09/2023 21:11

Oh poor thing ☹️High fevers always wend me
into a tailspin, my dd seems to spike high ones and they just always worry me ☹️I’m glad your daughter is on the mend and I hope she feels better soon and eats you out of house and home 💞

update: she’s woken up with a sore throat and fever so guessing it was start
of
tonsillitis. Thanks for all your help everyone x
