just looking for some opinions on my sons situation

quick breakdown of timeline -
Tuesday; All normal, visited soft play
Wednesday; Has diarrhoea but still seemed himself
Thursday; 4am - 11am vomiting, suspect it’s a bug he has picked up at that wonderful soft play!
Friday; Sister now has the bug, he continues to have diarrhoea. Isn’t eating much, but will take a feed from me or a bottle
Saturday; Dads turn for the bug, small appetite and diarrhoea continues for son and a temp of 38.8 begins. Given paracetamol or ibuprofen whenever the temp starts to climb again but it’s never really gone lower than 38
Sunday; I now have the bug. Wet nappies for him are much smaller than normal and he’s barely eaten anything, will still take feeds and bottles. Temp begins creeping up again about lunchtime today and stayed around 38.3 even with ibuprofen. He now has a runny nose too

Hes had a UTI in the past which was asymptomatic until he ended up in hospital with a temp of 40.8, was one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced and it has given be major anxiety around temperatures now to the point I had my alarm set every 2 hours last night to be able to check on him 😫

he was tested for a UTI again last week as I was concerned he just wasn’t himself (kept putting it down to his teeth he’s got 8 teeth and some molars working their way through) but the doctors had suggested this due to the fact he was asymptomatic last time. The test came back negative for everything thank god.

He has also been pulling at his ears a lot the past 2 weeks, but again I was linking this to teething. I’m now concerned it’s something
more and it’s all coming to a head at once!!

I’m due to begin counselling next week for these anxieties on advice from my HV as it honestly makes me so unwell with worry whenever they get not well (specifically a temperature or a cough). I can’t control it and I stop eating and sleeping as I get so worried, and I’m in the height of one of these episodes right now so just looking for others opinions on my wee ones situation right now. Thanks for reading!

I would say it's still within the realms of a normal tummy bug, how quickly has everyone else recovered?
He may have been unlucky enough to have picked up two viruses at once and the temperature is a separate thing.
Or, I have read that covid is currently causing both the tummy upset and the temperature so might be worth a test just for your own info.

I don't think a doctor would object to seeing a baby who has been unwell for 4 days, so don't feel bad for calling tomorrow morning.

It's great that he's feeding though, fluid is definitely most important, especially in this heat.

I didn't want to read and run. I struggle massively with temperature anxiety. My son spiked a temperature of 39.8 on Friday night. Out of the blue with very few other symptoms other than a headache (put it down to heat exhaustion). Bit this starts the cycle of continuously checking his temperature. I'll do it in one ear, then the other and then I'll check mine to compare.... its ridiculous and I know it is - but it is a compulsion. His fever lasted for 24hrs then disappeared as quickly as it came. But, I still checked him throughout last night. Then I panicked because it was 35.9. Logically I know that's normal for a sleeping child but still.

I really hope your counselling goes well. I take sertraline for health anxiety and general anxiety and most of the time I'm OK.... but you can guarantee a temperature will make me spiral.

I hope your little one is doing better today and that you're on the mend x

COVID? There's quite a lot of it around. Have any of the adults taken a test? When my little ones had it, it presented as D&V with little appetite, plus fever.

Didn’t want to leave this thread wide open as there’s nothing worse than looking for answers for yourself and the poster didn’t come back with a conclusion!!

My sons temperature continued into Monday afternoon, he was seen at OOH early Monday morning as they agreed it was best to do afew tests when I called 111 for advice, after his UTI afew months back. Everything came back clear and we think it was just a very bad stomach bug that took a while for him to shift. He’s a very happy boy and a B I G eater, and it took him until the following Thursday to perk up to his usual self and the Friday before his appetite came back.

Thinking about it now it’s all a blur as it’s so stressful at the time, but we are through it and he’s well. We all recovered very quickly and us adults did test and it wasn’t Covid.

NervousBohemian as much as it’s not nice to know you suffer with this too it’s a small comfort to know I’m not alone in this. Counselling hasn’t got off to a good start as 3 out of my 4 sessions so far have been cancelled!! Being a mum is a different level of stressful haha.

Big thankyou to everyone who commented back at the time.
