Formula fed newborn not pooing everyday

My 3 week old baby really struggles to poo. He goes every 3-5 days and it's causes him tummy cramps and pain when he doesn't go. I seen GP 3 days ago and he prescribed lactulose, he still hasn't pooed even since taking that, his last poo was 4 days ago. He takes cow and gate, and is definitely getting enough milk! How concerning is this? Doctor told me it's normal but dr Google is saying otherwise. Did anyone else experience this with their baby before? Would like to add I tried everything that's recommended for constipated babies and nothing seems to work. Would also like to add the first 5 days of his life he went 2/3 times a day and after 5 days it's been every 3-5 days.

Is hand expressing a little bit of breast milk an option for you? I top up my formula-fed baby with an ounce of two of breast milk every day and he goes straight away.

Because it's very hot at the moment, you could supplement with a bit of cooled boiled water or (very slightly) increase the proportion of water in the formula and see if that helps. Try to keep the baby cool too (less clothes etc)

Breast feeding isn't an option unfortunately and I've been giving him cool boiled water, it doesn't seem to work for him :( , the only thing that worked at the start was putting Vaseline on his bum but it no longer works

My little one used to be the same, we used to do loads of tummy massage and when in desperate need 1oz of cooled boiled water. My HV said it’s very normal because their little bodies are getting used to functioning etc. ☺️☺️

Was normal with mine. Lots of bicycle legs, tummy massage and put them right over your shoulder (with their tummy) and walk on the stairs when taking them up or down.
