Excessive blinking

Hi,
For about 5 weeks now my son has been suffering with his eyes. Initially we thought conjunctivitis was on its way but it never came to that. His eyes felt dry and uncomfortable so we attended the optician. Vision and eyes were fine but gave dry eye drops to try.
4 weeks on and he no longer has the dry eye feeling but he is blinking his eyes uncontrollably to the point of discomfort and he feels he can't sit and read or watch TV amd the only relief is when he closes his eyes at night.
It's really uncomfortable to watch him blinking so excessively even more so uncomfortable for him.
Doctors keep telling us to go to optician and optician keep saying as his eyes are otherwise healthy we need to see doctor.
I understand this may be a habit tic he has developed but surely if its affecting him daily and making his eyes feel uncomfortable there is something a Dr should do? I don't want him to now struggle in school because of this.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi Op, do you have an eye clinic / eye hospital dept at your local hospital? I would give them a call for advice. That sounds so frustrating that you are being passed from pillar to post. It sounds like his eyes have gotten used to the drops. Hope you are able to get it sorted soon

We do have an opthalmology dept at our local hospital but it's only usually accessible via a gp referral. Thank you it is so frustrating! He's entering an important year at school and I don't want this to affect his school work or even his confidence for that matter.

Could you call the GP and get a second opinion? Maybe stress how it is effecting his day to
day life. I work in healthcare and sadly it is the squeaky wheel which gets the most oil. Would using some OTC eye drops work be an idea for a short term solution, and then reduce it down day by day? That may wean his eyes off it whilst giving his eyes the moisture they need? I had a terrible bout of conjunctivitis (caught from a toddler DD) and my eyes took a couple of weeks to heal and I had a to use ?optrex eye drops a few times a day as my eyes were so awful.
