Eczema

A message here for all mums with children who suffer from eczema - a miracle cure!
My little girl (3.5yo) had bad and worsening eczema for 2 years. And even my newborn boy had it on his forehead until he was 5 months old.
My girl scratched herself bleeding every day, itchy skin on her bottom, behind her knees, inside of her elbows, around the wrists. No expensive cream helped. No oat baths, no other Aveno Baby or soaps or all the products you are advised to use. Private and NHS GP had same advice - take steroid creams and antihistamine pills.
We received the prescription right before moving to a new house and I never managed to pick up that nasty stuff from the pharmacy. We now live since 3 months in a new house and recently realised that we haven't applied any creams to her since we moved. Her and our son's eczema literally disappeared overnight. The only thing what was different to our house before, the new house had a water softener installed. I suddenly realised my own hair feels less frizzy and I don't have the urge to plunge my face into the next cream pot after coming out of the shower.
I read up on the water softener websites and looks like one of the advantages of them is improving skin conditions. Well, it certainly turned out to be a miracle treatment for my girl and boy. When I asked the house owner about the water softener she told me her mum had a very dry skin and she used to holiday in west country where the water was much softer and her skin was so much better, that's why they installed the water softener. So it works for adults as well as for children.
I thought I'd share this story since no eczema website is mentioning water softeners, but pushing creams and other drugs our way. Hopefully it will be of help for other mums (or dads).

Is there a name/brand for the water softener that is installed at your new house? As I have a similar issue with my little one. We were abroad in east Africa for 1.5 years and her skin miraculously got better. Within a week of coming back to UK ( hard water area) it’s become worse for her skin.

This is really interesting. I love somewhere with beautifully soft water. My parents do not and I often suffer eczema flare ups when seeing them.

I’ve considered a water softener too. My teen son has suffered terribly from eczema so much so he has scarred his skin. We’ve tried everything apart from light therapy although he was offered it. We live in a very hard water area.
