Son's bruises

Hello,

My son keeps coming up with these bruises especially on his legs. My son has ASD and is non verbal so he doesn't understand if I try to ask him. Apart from soft play, play park and swimming I can't seem to think what would cause these bruises and so many of them.

I've attached some pictures

how old is he? My son had bruises like these a couple
of years ago. He also has ASD and sensory issues and likes to feel a lot of pressure at times so will hurl himself in softplay / sofa and hit and edge on his shins. Would this fit?

How old is he? Does he climb in and out of the swimming pool? My kids legs are like this after swimming

Climbing in and out of the pool?

These are very common type of bruises aren't they? I have a couple of these at the moment and I'll be damned if I know how. Two young kids though and we did just go swimming! I've noticed similar on my son at times as well, he's very active.

How old is he, when you say "keeps getting" them - since when? How often roughly?

Gingernaut · 29/08/2023 22:19

I have ADHD and have these bruises, usually around my lower lower arms, legs and hips - furniture finding parts of the body

Like booze bruises, but caused by not paying attention

Unexplained bruising which you can't easily come up with an explanation for is something you should see the GP about.

Especially if he has any other symptoms, such as tiredness, breathlessness, infections that are hard to shift, new aches and pains in the joints.

Chances are it's something and nothing, but there are some conditions which need to be ruled out (blood tests, in particular a full blood count)

Thanks for your replies.

He has just turned 5 , I've been trying to get a GP appointment since last Thursday but they wasn't concerned it was urgent and his GP releases slots on a Wednesday so hope I can get an appointment tomorrow.

When he's swimming he sits by the step and soft play he does the same thing over and over again so nothing that would make me think to get the bruises.

One of mine was very prone to bruises. I got them blood tests and checked over, all was fine. I'd get it checked but some kids are just more prone to bruising than others.

My DD is renowned for getting these bruises - I was concerned (she also has an auto immune disease) but GP said he wasn’t concerned because the bruises are on boney areas. He was only concerned if they appeared on fleshy areas, such as stomach, under the arms, bottom etc, because these areas are not typically ones to bruise easily. I would ask GP to do a blood test for peace of mind, but rest assured both my DC have legs like this as they crash about places!
