What do you think these spots/rash is?

I will probably call 111 shortly but looking to see if anyone knows what this might be. 2 year old woke up with this cluster of red spots on her bottom/thigh. They don’t seem to be itching her, they fade when I press on them and she seems absolutely fine - no high temp, eating and drinking normally, doesn’t seem ill at all. They are slightly raised so you can feel them when you run your fingers over them.

We visited some friends who live on a small holding yesterday afternoon and I wondered if she might have sat on something that has bitten her (they played in the garden for ages but also inside). They have a cat, chickens and sheep and also live opposite a dairy farm. However if it were insect bites or fleas then I’d expect it to be itching her and it doesn’t seem to. But if it was any other type of rash then I’d expect her to be unwell? TIA

I would take her to a pharmacy but our local one is useless and they’re always too busy to give any advice so it would have to be 111 for an out of hours appointment.

If it was mine OP I'd probably call 111 to be on the safe side, hope she's ok xx

It could be bites, especially given yesterday.

I'd go to the pharmacy and see what they suggest.

Strip the bed and wash everything on hot, wipe the frame down, in case any mites are hiding.

Thanks I’m going to call 111 and see what they say. It’s confusing because she’s not poorly and it doesn’t seem itchy but it’s all in one area

I'd wait and see tbh. Children get all sorts of minor rashes for all sorts of benign reasons. Perhaps it's a bit of heat rash, maybe she brushed against something that has irritated her skin. She's not itchy or ill so there isn't anything to treat. It'll likely be completely gone by tomorrow morning and if not you might want to give her a little piriton and see if that sorts it.

I’ve spoken to 111 and sent them the pic and they said it looks most like chicken pox. I’m now worried as I’m 4 months pregnant and not sure if I had it myself as a child although I think I did perhaps mildly.

My daughter had some like this two weeks ago. On her chest and legs. At first, I thought flea bites or chicken pox starting.

Coincidentally, I felt like utter crap (tired) so randomly did a covid test as we had an old box lying around and the last time I felt this tired I had covid. yep, it was positive.

Her rash never developed further and went away within a couple of days. Didn’t itch her. She did have a sniffle for a day. So I figured she had probably had covid too and the rash was a reaction.

I’ve seen a few people on social media talk about random rashes in kids recently, interestingly. I am guessing it’s the new variant that’s spreading fast.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 26/08/2023 09:10

I think they're wrong; that doesn't look like chicken pox. You are normally ill with it and the spots have blisters. They also don't present as a big cluster in such a specific place.

My guess would be some kind of reaction from sitting on grass; pollen or nips from ants. I sometimes get random rashes on my legs when I've been gardening and in contact with the grass. I get hayfever but we also have ants in our lawn.

Ancientdecs · 26/08/2023 09:12

Looks like hand, foot and mouth. Usually comes with a temp though. That area is usually affected. Any on her hands?

Spottytoddler · 26/08/2023 09:13

Hmm interesting. We have just been away with a big group of people but mine were the only little ones so I thought it was unlikely to be chickenpox but perhaps more likely to be covid. I’ve felt a bit iffy myself for a few days. Might have a test somewhere so will take one!

I thought the spots looked too clustered to be chicken pox but the 111 clinician said they could sometimes show like that and then spread.

It's not chicken pox anyway.

Marynotsocontrary · 26/08/2023 09:14

Did she have bare legs when out and about yesterday? I'd guess it has something to do with your visit to the smallholding, especially as she's not ill.

Spottytoddler · 26/08/2023 09:17

No spots on her hands or feet or mouth and no high temp. @Marynotsocontrary she was wearing leggings so didn’t have bare legs but I changed her pull up while we were there (indoors) so I wondered if something got caught inside her leggings and bit her. But that number of bites would surely be very itchy?

If I give her piriton and they go down then does that mean they’re unlikely to be chickenpox? 111 initially said to try piriton but then didn’t mention it again when they decided it was chickenpox.

Has she been swimming or in a hot tub? My children had this recently after swimming - localising in one area around legs bum and Gp put down to that. There was a name for it like hot tub isis or something. Went away within a week!

Kallie92 · 13/10/2024 09:54

Did you ever get to bottom of this? Was it pox? Or just a weird rash my 2 year old DD has this on her side but has already had pox and no more come up today?

Spottytoddler · 14/10/2024 10:52

We didn’t really but we did decide that it definitely wasn’t chicken pox, we think it was a flea or insect of some sort that got trapped in her trousers. They didn’t spread anywhere else and went down after a day or two.
