Migraine advice for children

My little girl (10 yo) suffered a migraine today for the first time. Whilst it lasted, she was really quite ill and, unusually for her, distressed. She had visual disturbances followed by extreme feelings of sickness and an extremely bad head.

A few hours later she is ok, with only a slight headache that is manageable with Calpol.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience/advice as to what causes them and/or how to deal with the symptoms so I can be more prepared next time, and also make sure she is prepared if she gets one at school.

She is probably going to start her period in the next six months/year. Calpol and sleep. Then speak to your GP. This has happened with all my girls. Tell school and talk to her about making sure she drinks enough water and eats.

Yes before dd got her first period she had a spate of terrible headaches, not normal for her. She's 10.5. Hydration is important, DD has a soluble electrolyte in her water bottle, and a B vitamin supplement

@Fifireee @Beetlewings I was wondering if it could be puberty related but was hoping not, she's still so small!

Thank you both for the advice though, that's really useful and just the kind of info I was looking for.
