Stones in 4 year old poo

Dotty93 · 18/08/2023 14:46

My 4 year old eats stones, mud, chalk, anything she finds on the floor.
She has been doing this for a while and a lot of people have said it's just something children go through.
However the last week her poo does not flush down the toilet, i had to poke it with a stick to find it is solid with stones in.

I have asked her why she eats stuff of the floor and her response is that she likes it.

Has anyone got advice on this or have been through similar?
There's no issues with her health and she doesn't have trouble doing number twos.

While some pica is normal this goes far, far beyond that. You need to contact the GP for advice and failing that ask for a psychologist referral. It can often be a sign of trauma / severe anemia / internal blood loss.

I would make a urgent GP appointment.

That is not something children commonly do at 4.

Id say its unusual at 4, it's a stage at about 1.5.

I'd make a gp appointment

Ask for blood tests to check for anaemia and coeliac disease.

I would say that is Pica. Book an appointment with the Gp asap as that is not normal behaviour for a 4 year old.

Thank you I will book her in with the GP first thing Monday morning as they are closed for the weekend.
I will get my almost 2 year old seen also because has started doing the same, I have put that down to copying my 4 year old.

This can be really dangerous, you need to get get her seen ASAP.
I would agree that this sounds like PICA, this is urgent.

I spoke to 111 this morning, they said to contact my local GP (which will be Monday now) because it is a on going issue.
