5y old constant leg pain

For the past year or so, DS has complained that his legs hurt. It used to be occasional but at the moment he mentions it everyday. It's usually both legs, sometimes individual legs interchangeably at different times.

When I ask him where exactly it hurts, he always shows his shins.

I always put it down to growing pains and it's always worse when he's been particularly physically active. He's been spending his summer playing football so it's quite bad at the moment.

Should we investigate this further or just wait for it to pass? Sometimes it really does upset him at the end of the day, should I give Calpol or something everytime?

This isn’t normal. He needs to be checked over. A year without looking into whether there’s anything going on, is a long time. The answer isn’t to keep giving calpol and wait for him to stop getting these pains (what if he doesn’t stop getting them?) but to take him to the doctor.

My son suffers with growing pains, it does sound like it as he's saying his shins hurt. I remember the feeling when I was little too. A hot water bottle is the best thing for it, heat always helped me and my son says the same thing. Maybe try that?

Go to the GP, OP. He needs to be seen.

Ds used to say this alot around that age, we also put it down to growing pain.
He's recently been told he's borderline dyspraxic/hyper mobile and apparently the flexible joints can cause pain. Might be something to look into

My dd had very similar to this at the same age and it turned out that she had hyper mobility. It wasn't picked up until I was walking behind her one day and saw that her feet were over pronating.
