Bronchiolitis- what shall I do?

6 month old was seen by doc two days ago- he has bronchiolitis. He hasn't got a temperature now, but has been up all night screaming and unsettled

Isn't feeding quite right, but still has wet nappies.

I'm sitting on the stairs with a bag packed wondering whether I should call 111. They will probably send an ambulance because of his age it's happened before for the same thing.

He's just SO unsettled.has a nasty cough, sneezing

What shall I do? TIA

I'm so sorry your baba isn't feeling well Sad if I were you I'd definitely call 111 or just go straight in to A&E if he's really not well. Better to be on the safe side and for your piece of mind too x

@nonamebetty2023 I just don't know to do if it's better to keep him at home and manage it- they wont do anything in a and e that i can't do here surely. But he's so unsettled but I don't want to cause a fuss 😥

I totally understand. Have you tried giving him a bath? It might help settle him for a bit. Or take a nice warm shower together doing skin to skin, that's even better than just giving him a bath! If he's still unsettled you should just take him in. It must be really really bothering him if he can't settle.

are You feeding little and often? You could try to do about half their normal feeds twice as often as they cough so much they end up vomiting. Day 4-6 tend to be the worst days. Sounds horrible but if they have a good strong cry that’s reassuring because they are strong enough to cry, quiet lethargic babies are a worry.

If he starts to show any signs of breathing difficulties like blue lips or sucking in under/between his ribs, is taking less than half the normal amount of milk or doesn’t have a wet nappy for more than 6 hrs get him seen again or if your gut is telling you that he needs to be seen again.

Theres a free nhs app called HANDi which is great for kids illnesses which we recommend to parents

Take him to a&e, he may need help with his oxygen levels x

Definitely call- our baby boy had the same thing at 6 weeks old. Although he was ok, we were reassured by the paediatric team that we had done the correct thing by seeking advice (they did send an ambulance due to his age) as it can become very serious very quickly in small babies. They also commonly require to provide oxygen and/ or feeding at this age. Definitely seek advice to be safe.

if it’s bronchiolitis a nebuliser will do precisely nothing except upset them

Thankyou everyone sorry for the late reply! I didn't call 111 as he finally fell asleep and slept till 9am- much brighter today. Thankyou all so much xxxx
