Baby pooing a lot

Hi,

My 3 week old is bottle fed and pooing nearly every change - some small some big. Poo looks normal to be, but the frequency has really increased over the past 2 days. Before he would only go once to twice a day - a couple of days not going any. Is this normal? Will call GP in the morning to confirm.

He seems fine in himself, only problem is his bum is really sore so when changing he is really upset and you can tell he is in pain.

Any advice welcome - thank you x

Mine was ebf but pooed just as much.

I found cleaning with cotton pads and water, drying before putting nappy back on and using Vaseline as a barrier cream kept the sore bum at bay. Also Metanium if she did get a rash.

Thank you - have tried that a few times - no rash just very sore looking at the moment. Will continue using cotton wool and water x

My baby was pooing every nappy change as well. He is breastfed, this pattern has changed after 8 weeks. He now goes once daily or once every 2 days. I found some nappies gave him more nappy rash, his bottom also looked very red and sore sometimes. I found that pampers nappies were giving him the worst rash and since changed to Morrison’s Nutmeg, which I really like and he never had an inflamed bottom with them. And as Pollywodles said cotton pads with warm water are better than baby wipes for sore skin. I also use Sudocream which heals the soreness immediately.

Thank you - I have been using pampers. I have some aldi and M&S ones so I will change now and see if any improvement. Thanks so much

My baby (DC2) is 2 weeks old and suddenly pooing a lot more (but feeding a lot more!) it’s normal. Would agree with PP that metanium is the best cream when it gets hot and sore. Only a little
bit needed though

I also agree that it sounds fairly normal. We used to get a poo after pretty much every feed at the beginning.

I absolutely second metanium for when it starts getting red (the yellow stuff). You only need a tiny bit (you spread it very thinly so you can see the skin through the layer you put on) but it is brilliant stuff for sorting out the rash in record time.
