Has anyone experienced bleeding gums when brushing in teething baby?

Hi all - just looking for some advice and hopefully some reassurance.

Last week I brushed my 15 month olds teeth (he only has 6 and is currently teething like mad) and they bled when brushing. Not a lot and it stopped as soon as I noticed. I put it down to his gums being sensitive, and me brushing too hard as I literally have to hold him down as he hates having his teeth brushed so much.

I brushed again for the next 7 days and absolutely nothing - until Weds evening when he bled again - only a tiny bit again.
I panicked and booked a dentist and docs appt - the dentist did a pretty rubbish job and only got to see his bottom gums and decided they looked fine so I was either over brushing and told me if it doesn’t stop to go to the GP and ask for blood tests to rule stuff out.

I spoke to the GP who said as the Dentist said that she would book him a blood test - I have massive health anxiety and this has tipped me over the edge, I can’t eat, can hardly function as I am so terrified something is wrong with him even though the GP told me herself she isn’t expecting anything to come back as he is so fine in himself - he’s 15 months old and currently playing football in the garden with his siblings! Eating fine, normal teething nappies, just his usual happy self.

He hasn’t bled all weekend when brushed then tonight he has bled a tiny bit from his top gums under the bottom of his teeth - I’ve had another meltdown as I got him a brand new soft brush and the only think I can think of is he has sensitive gums and all the thrashing around he dose causes it?

sorry, I know I’ve waffled on I’m just wondering if anyone has had anything similar: thank you.

I was advised to take my little one to a&e when his gums were bleeding when brushing, I went into an absolute melt down and took him to our local children’s hospital emergency department, I felt really stupid but the GP had sent us there.
I will admit that they took it very seriously and did blood tests immediately but everything came back totally normal.
I know how difficult it is and I too am
a huge worrier. I take no chances when it comes to my children. I know for a fact no doctor would judge you for seeking answers asap if you wanted to as it can be a symptom of scary stuff but remember it happened to by boy and was nothing.
I hope you are okay x

And please before anyone says anything about the a&e thing our GP literally sent us there! I felt so stupid but he needed urgent bloods really x

Thank you - did they ever get to the bottom of why your little one had it? Was it all the time or just every now and then?

It was happening for quite a while, mild but we could see it. They did bloods which were completely normal and repeat ones also normal thank god. I hope you get to the bottom of it it’s really stressful x

I’m hoping we have the same. I honestly can’t function and keep crying even though I know probably he’s absolutely fine?! And surely if it was anything bad he’d have them pouring out - it’s literally just a drop on his gum and I’m convinced it’s from him thrashing around

I would’ve thought gums bleeding when brushing would mean a tooth was likely coming thru, so the gum itself was thinner? I would ask your GP / dentist for clarification OP, but I’m sure my DC may have had it (and I wouldn’t have noticed!).

This is what I thought too, but it’s under his teeth that are already through? But he has teeth erupting along both bottom and top gums so they will surely be sensitive. The Dentist said no obvious dental cause so hence why Gp said about a blood test to rule stuff out - it’s literally just a tiny dot every now and then when he thrashed around but I feel like I’m going to have a full on breakdown about it all to be honest I’m really struggling.

Sorry to bring up an old post but what was the outcome @m123x as I'm having the same thing with my 15 month old, 2 nights in a row
