Sudden stammering age 6

My just turned 6 year old DD has just started stammering over the summer holidays, out of nowhere.
Her 2 year old sister stammers but speech and language have seen her and say it's just developmental with her as she's going through a big language leap; and it is improving in the last month or so, so i think that's right.
If relevant my 6yo's best friend also stammers so I thought it might be copying behaviour but I've heard that's not possible.
I'm contacting the GP tomorrow as she had a fall in the playground in the last week of school requiring her to attend a&e for a head bump but they checked her out for a few hours and said she was fine.
Can developmental stammering suddenly start at 6? Her reading has just taken a leap forward so could it be to do with it that?
What can I do to help, other than talk to her new teacher in September about access to SLT support?

Hi OP, my DS suddenly started stammering aged 5 - I spoke to the school as soon as I noticed it and the teacher just said “well he has to slow down and think about what he says”. It stopped after a couple of weeks, but no idea why it started. I think if she had a head bump I would check with the GP for their thoughts.

Thank you @Songbird74 - I'm hoping it stops as quickly as it started but I will definitely be calling the GP too.

Did you ever find out why it suddenly happened? I do wonder if it's linked to a leap in thinking because she's suddenly stepped up a gear in her reading/interests/conversation if that makes sense

Hi Op, I’m afraid I never did find out why it started. DS would start talking and it would be like “m-m-m-mummy” - DH as family picked up on it so I asked the teacher if he was doing it at school (no one we know has a stutter / he wasn’t watching anything where a character stutters) so it was very strange. He was in reception and it didn’t last long, but the teacher was very practical about it, thinking it was more about him thinking what he needed to say, so I’m not sure if she had seen it before with other children (the teacher was mid 50s with plenty years experience of teaching young children). DS is now 10 and he’s never done it since
