Is this Ringworm or Hives? Spreading by the minute, and I'm concerned...

Hi there, these two photos were taken just under two hours apart this morning,

Does anyone have any advice/thoughts? Maybe ringworm or hives?

I'm concerned at how quickly its spreading, and not sure whether we go to A&E, or if thats an overreaction.

We have piritieze syrup (antihistamine, for hives) and anti fungal cream in case its ringworm, but its moving so rapidly I'm worried it might be something else entirely.

Hives I'd say

urrrgh46 · 12/08/2023 12:11

hives

Those are definitely hives. Is there a history of allergic reactions, does the dc have any other symptoms?

eandz13 · 12/08/2023 12:13

Looks a bit like pityriasis rosea. It usually begins with a herald patch - one red patch of skin, can be mistaken for ringworm. If antihistamines aren't making a difference I'd be inclined to think it could be this. I'd see a pharmacist initially and see what they say!
Obviously any signs of worsening symptoms in the meantime (ie. trouble breathing) then straight to A&E.

My ds had something like that it was a viral rash

shawlandsmum · 12/08/2023 12:30

Really appreciate these quick responses,
She's doing fine other than the rash marks - no fever, no light sensitivity, no other symptoms as far as we can tell, and she seems herself...

She isn't allergic to anything as far as we're aware, and she's never had any adverse reactions like this before.

I've had that. It dies t come on over a couple of hours. More likely an urticarial reaction to something.

@Toddlerteaplease Mine did, I had the herald patch for weeks and weeks on my lower torso. Thought it was a patch of eczema. Had a shower one day and came out in hundreds more within around 20 minutes. Scared the bejeezus out of me!

We’re pretty convinced it’s Hives,

they faded yesterday, almost completely, a few returned before bedtime, and then this morning they’d come back with a vengeance.

they seem to be fading away again now, so it seems to be waves of them.

hopefully it won’t last for long. She’s doing fine otherwise, they don’t even seem to be itching her at the moment, thankfully.

Did you ever figure this out? How long did it take to go away
