DS(6) has little brown pinpricks on his side

No other way to describe them really, these have popped up since yesterday. His whole side is covered in these little brown dots? They look almost like old grazes that are healing but they definitely weren't there yesterday and they don't feel rough. He's will in himself otherwise, should I be concerned?

I wouldn’t be personally if he’s well in himself. I always think 111 online is great for stuff like this though. They usually ring back really quickly if needed with a young child. Does it disappear if you roll a glass over it?

MeinKraft · 10/08/2023 22:29

No it doesn't disappear. It's more like a succession of tiny bruises than a rash though. He's in really good form, not even a runny nose. I live in NI and we don't have 111 here. This is maybe a better photo

Are they just on that side? I can also see some yellow bruising on a line on his side so I’m guessing he’s maybe had a fall or a knocked into something and they are bruising linked to that?

If it doesn’t disappear with the glass test I’d ring the out of hours GP to be on the safe side. Non blanching rashes should always be checked out is my understanding and they can look like tiny bruises.

If you google non blanching rash NHS it will say children should be seen the same day regardless of whether they are otherwise well.

Possibly - he's been on a bouncy castle in the last few days so maybe hurt himself somehow on that

Hopefully fine but Please call 111 - the nhs guidance Is clear that this should be checked

If he's been on a bouncy castle I would say it's probably a type of friction bruise from that. My kids have had similar in the past.

I agree with this

As the mother of children who got a lot of unexplained petechial rashes, the medical advice I received was to always seek medical attention whenever a child develops a non-blanching rash. My DC always required a hospital visit and blood test as petechial rashes can sometimes be caused by something sinister (in our case, it never was luckily). Please call 111 or go to A&E for advice. Hope he is better soon.
