Hi All, my 4 year old woke during the night with what we think was viral croup. She was complaining of a sore throat yesterday, and by 3am she had woken coughing and short of breathe. Out of hours GP looked at her and gave her a dose and steroids and she's bounced back. No fevers and just a bit hoarse and sneezy.

The out of hours doctor advised review with her own GP today, but when we arrived we got a locum. He made a comment that she seems to have had a lot of viruses like this - which I really didn't think she had. I'm over-tired and a natural worrier anyway, but it's really bothered me and has me panicked :( I did ask for advice but he didn't really say much and told me not to worry - just watch her temp for the next 48hrs and sent me away with an antibiotic prescription "just in case".

Both my 2 and 4 year did get slammed last year a bit, but they had never had anything before then. First thing my 4 year old had was covid and she was pretty poorly. Needed antibiotics for a UTI and throat infection. That was March and they weren't sick again until August when they got RSV. Had a few mild colds and tummy bugs and then had a flu in October which lead to ear infections and was bad. This year they've had adenovirus twice and it was AWFUL. They were sick with high fevers and on antibiotics both times - Feb and May - as was I! They've had nothing again until this croup episode.

Now when they are sick I do panic - my own reasons - so I probably do get them seen pretty fast and bring them back for review fast if I feel it's needed. My GP is also quick to send to A&E on precaution - we've never been admitted.

Does this seem OOT to anyone else?
