Urgent referral?

I’m sorry, me
again.
does anyone know what criteria it takes for an ENT referral to be made
as urgent?
DD7 has finally been referred to ENT after 7 bouts of strep A / scarlet fever in last 10 months, 3 of which have been in last 3 months so I’m on my knees with a week off work to care for her each month and 2-3 weeks with her off antibiotics before the next round. Gp expects this to somehow Increase
over winter ☹️
in our area a standard
referral is 18-24 months and urgent is 5-12 months.
We are on a standard pathway and I’m curious what it takes for an urgent one
as 18/24 months of
This feels impossible. Anyone have experience of this?

Hi OP, I’ve worked in a hospital in the admissions area and what I advise is going back to your GP and stressing to them about how you feel your DD is suffering etc - it’s the GP we would advise patients going back to following a referral because if they put you on a routine pathway, then they are the ones who will need to up it to urgent / cancer (2 week wait). Sometimes the hospital consultant will upgrade the urgency following review of referral but not always - speak to your GP again and just say how your DD is struggling with pain / effects of the strep and it is causing her to suffer in her every day life / she cannot live a normal life.

Failing that, I would call your hospitals admission team and say that you can make a short notice cancellation - they can add a note to your DD’s file so that if an appointment is cancelled by someone else, they can see that you could come in at the drop of the hat.

Best of luck x

Tell the GP that it’s affecting her education, and that work have expressed concerns at your time off.

Thank you so much, I’ll do exactly this. Her education is definitely being affected missing a week out every month and I’ll be lucky to keep my job at this rate with a week ofd
a month to look after her ☹️
