Sick bug when not been anywhere?

How does the one person in the house who hasnt been anywhere get a sick bug?

Last weekend (24th july) we were away and dd2 lost her toenail on the beach, she hasn't been anywhere since except the gsrden as she has been struggling to walk. It's healing well/no signs of infection.

Dd2 has since this morning been being sick/not keeping any food down, general sick bug symptoms. Dp and I have been to work, and we were out with dd1 on Saturday cinema/town. We had one visitor also on Saturday. We are all well but dd2 who hasn't been anywhere to catch anything isn't.

Has she eaten/drunk the same as everyone else in the household? It is possible to pick up and carry a bug like norovirus without showing symptoms yourself so someone could've brought it home and she's picked it up from them.

People who have been places are the carriers with no symptoms and the one who hasn't been anywhere has caught it from them and has symptoms. Is this honestly the first time something like this has ever happened to you?

What beach were you at? Did you check how clean it is and if there were any pollution warnings? Even if she didn’t actually go in the sea it the tide still comes in over the sand.

it’s also possible she’s picked up a bug from literally anywhere else.

monitor her closely and if there is anything outside what you’d expect for a sickness bug give 111 a call.

Maybe she didn’t wash hands properly before eating and has an E. coli type infection. Or has eaten something contaminated - an egg with Salmonella for example?

Yes this is actually the first time this has happened where there hasn't been a obvious way one of us has caught a sick bug. Dd2 is 10 so we have had plenty pf bugs over the years albeit less recently now dc are older.

She hasn't eaten anything different from the rest of us, so while not impossible unlikely. There is a possibility that she may not have washed her hands properly, we were in the garden yesterday for the first time in over a week. Playing a bit of basketball and getting her used to wearing shoes as she's pretty much been barefoot since last Monday. I did send her to wash her hands when we came in but possible she may not have washed thoroughly.

Beach is a clean beach in North Wales - I've checked and the water was tested recently.

I'm keeping my eye out for signs of anything untoward. Even took the plaster off this morning I'd changed last night to check for any sings of infection. Fingers crossed it's a bog standard sick bug and nothing else.
