If anyone in the medical Field tell me about Petechiae my sons had a fever recently, gone off his food now looking close to his skin he had this spotted about his whole body? I've been to the doctors already And they always put it down to viral, unfortunately I've only just noticed the petechiae so I didn't even get a chance to mention it. Is this a common rash in children or is it something I should be taking seriously as it doesn't blanch.

Petechiae usually warrants a blood test. I’m honestly not saying this to worry you as it’s almost always fine but the nhs protocol is that it needs to be checked out (in regards to platelet levels etc). I know from bitter experience as both my boys get petechiae (sometimes viral but often just where a car strap or rucksack etc has been pressing down etc). My husband is the same. Never any issues discovered but definitely let the GP know.

Hi Op, I’m reiterating @NeonHalo‘s comment. My Dc have had lots of petechial rashes - they’ve never really been poorly with them but each rash has always warranted a blood test. I personally would call 101 for advice because if your DC isn’t 100% and has developed this rash since seeing a GP, they should be checked over again.

Exactly as the other posters have said.
my DD is prone to this with a virus but it always warrants a blood test to check her platelets - they are always fine, so I’m not sure why she’s gets them, but it does need checked just to be on the safe side.

We got admitted onto a children's ward when my son developed petechiae after a virus as a toddler, he is also prone to it as am I but I didn't know that at the time. They wanted to check his urine but he was so full of beans and running around the ward that they didn't end up checking anything and just discharged us. I assume this was due to the fact that he was presenting like he was at a birthday party.

Oh really. Can it just come and go for no cause then? I’m gunna take him up tomorrow and ask for bloods I think.

I am not sure and definitely important to get it checked but may not be something to be too alarmed about.

coffeeisthebest · 20/03/2024 20:56

If it stays with a glass on over it then yes

Bethanyjoelle · 20/03/2024 20:58

Yes it does. Did yours used too do that too? And there nothing seriously wrong with you?
