Help needed

In hospital with 9 month old girl. Admitted with vaginal bleeding. Ultrasound has shown thick uterine lining, large right ovary (x4 more volume than expected) and follicles around 0.7cm in both ovaries. Routine bloods have come back normal. Seeing endocrinology in the morning however unsure what to ask.

Anyone able to help?

Are these your symptoms or your 9mths old? Sorry, I'm confused.

NatalieParis · 30/07/2023 23:20

These are my baby's symptoms

That must be scarey for you, but at least she is in hospital getting tested. I honestly don't know what it might be.

coxesorangepippin · 30/07/2023 23:28

My Mum tells me that I had a period when I was a small baby - apparently it does happen.

Nothing came of it as such, I think it only happened once

NatalieParis · 30/07/2023 23:28

We have been in since Friday 3 different consultants have all advised they've never seen anything like it which is honest of them but definitely not reassuring. The biggest concern for the is a pituitary or adrenal tumour. Likely to MRI tomorrow

That is worrying, but she is in the right place and will be seeing the right person tomorrow. At the moment it sounds like things are happening and at speed, so you just need to be her mum and comfort her. They will have a plan in the morning. Get someone to bring you clean clothes and let you take a shower and bring some food that isn’t junk food.

SM4713 · 30/07/2023 23:31

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know anything about paediatric pelvic ultrasounds I'm afraid. Are they suspecting precocious puberty or something pituitary?

LanaDelRaybans · 30/07/2023 23:32

Was your little girl born prematurely by any chance?

NatalieParis · 30/07/2023 23:32

Thanks for all the replies! One of the consultants suspected prec puberty but her LH AND FSH tests are normal. They are planning on doing a test, injecting a hormone and checking bloods every 30 minutes for 2 hours to see how her body reacts

In a newborn girl it can be normal but only when a newborn.

You need to sleep and be advised by your doctors in the morning, not wait up for advice from the internet however well-intentioned. There's not pressure on you come up with "the right questions" right now.

mibid · 31/07/2023 00:07

This must be really scary, OP. Thinking of you.

determinedtomakethiswork · 31/07/2023 00:08

Try to get some sleep now. I really hope you get some help from the doctors tomorrow.

I hope today goes well, the only thing I could think of to add at this stage, was to ask if you are not in a large children's hospital with extensive paediatrics or with a hospital that is making contact with a specialist unit. You could ask for a referral or second opinion to a specialist unit. Most hospitals are fantastic but sometimes a quicker direct line to a big children's hospital like Alder hey, Southampton, GOSH is key for next steps.

Write questions down you want answers to? Try and care for yourself over the day, eat, get coffee etc.

I hope it goes well today & you get answers for next steps.

Good luck for today 💕

LoonyLois · 31/07/2023 08:46

Hope you get some answers soon

NatalieParis · 31/07/2023 11:35

Hi all, just to update. Most likely cause is a pituitary tumour or cyst in her hypothalamus. Awaiting MRI

Jazzybean · 31/07/2023 11:40

Hope you’re ok OP. The good news is that these are usually benign and treatable. Hope all goes well with her MRI xxx
