Hi any ideas on this before we wait for the doctors on Monday.

She's had these a few days but more are coming only red because she's been rubbing it, bit itchy.

She says she's had one of them since the start of June, they definitely weren't this noticeable or many then.

Not really thinking spots or rash from plant more skin condition???

Any ideas anyone?

She is 10 and it's above her inner elbow

Mollescum contagium I think. Possibly from swimming pool.

Have a Google and see if they look similar

RedLem0nade · 29/07/2023 22:08

I actually thought “probably molluscum” just from seeing your title! Looks quite like it alright.

ThePoshUns · 29/07/2023 22:15

Agree looks like molluscum

YawnyMcdawny · 29/07/2023 22:16

Agree with Mollescum contagium

It's a very common thing, but never really discussed. I'd never heard of it until my children both had it in reception year. Turns out more than half the class ended up with it!

You can buy a couple of lotions and potions. It will stick around for about a year or so. Not a lot actually works.

The bodies immune system doesn't recognise it so the little spots / lumps hang around for AGES. the only way to get rid of it is to try and get the head off.... we tried vigorous towel rubbing after a bath and tried to rub the spots extra hard ( without hurting) . By breaking the skin the body will send antibodies and that spot eventually disappears.

Agree molluscum

Whattheactualwhatnow · 29/07/2023 22:28

Definitely is

Yes, same - and then seeing it’s in the inside elbow which is a classic place!

I got a lotion which was recommended on here; it irritated the bumps and made them scab and disappear eventually. You need to put a plaster over the top while they scab as they are contagious

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 29/07/2023 22:32

Thanks everyone, I'll have a Google of Molluscum

Did anyone treat it or leave it?
I don't want her overly scratching/ picking at it

We restarted swimming lessons in March so maybe it's from there but never mind

We had persistent veruccas last year that I spent every day of the school holidays treating/ filing because they were getting out of hand, managed it eventually with an extra strength cream and filing without ever breaking the skin oh and using tanamu (spelling) balm kept the skin soft

I'll maybe stick that on just to see if it helps

Treated my sons. Did absolutely nothing and he had it for over a year.

My daughter had it more mildly but for almost a year.

It is highly contagious and I bet if you checked with the school loads of kids will have / have had it.

HowNowJerseyCow · 04/08/2023 22:21

We went against official advice and treated them by pricking them with a sterile needle and dabbing a bit of tea tree oil on them.

Cleared it up when they had hung around for ages.

Dr will probably tell you there is nothing you can do. I got fed up of them spreading so took matters into my own hands eventually!

mummabubs · 05/08/2023 06:58

Both my kids currently have this, DD (who brought it home from nursery) only has one spot in her elbow, but our poor 6 year old DS has a cluster of about 7 of them on his face 🤦🏻‍♀️ They're quite obvious and distressing, but the NHS advice said not to treat or intervene as then they're more likely to leave pit scars, and we don't want that either. Until last week I'd never heard of this at all!
