Heart murmur

I took my 6 week old daughter to the go today due to suddenly poor feeling, taking her 6 hours to finish 4 oz of milk, falling asleep after a few sucks on the bottle, and occasionally seems to be in discomfort when feeding, she's also very fatigued and sleeps an awful lot, she often is breathing heavily with her chest ect, the doctor noticed she has a heart murmur with a bit of reflux and he's giving her 3 days to see if anything becomes more noticeable until I take her back to see him, of course I'm no stop panicking as she's only managed just over 2 bottles of milk in 16 hours, I'm Googling all about heart murmurs and she seems to have a handful of symptoms of congestive heart failure, I have to sit and worry myself for any other 3 days before I see a doctor again, please has anyone else experienced a heart murmur with symptoms before? I know most murmurs are innocent but I also know the innocent ones don't tend to come with symptoms..

I am in my 30s and have lived my whole life with a heart murmur. I’m healthy with a young family. My murmur was spotted when I was an infant. As I grew older and had more tests and scans they realised I have more heart problems and will eventually go into heat failure but by spotting it so early I’ve always been monitored. I regularly attend a cardiologist and have done since I was a child. I receive regular tests and scans. I’m on blood pressure medication and i’m well looked after.
I have had a few operations but everything was fine.

Whilst growing up I was more tired than other children. I caught more bugs than others and would regularly catch the flu and chest infections. I didn’t know life could be any different. I didn’t miss out on anything- other than sitting out some races in sports day!

During covid times I isolated and got the vaccine early. When I caught covid a few years later I was fine, unwell but manageable.

It was always a question of if I could carry a baby and when would be the right time and with support from my dh, my family and the doctors, I successfully carried my baby girl all the way. My heart coped and didn’t need emergency surgery.

im saying this as a little bit of hope. It’s scary, it’s new and it’s your baby. You of course will be scared and worried but it’s been caught when she’s so young and she will be so well looked after. She’s feeding, slowly but she’s still feeding. You’re being the best mum looking after her. Whatever happens, whatever tests she may face, you will do it together and you will both get through it.
Then in 20- 30 odd years time she will give you a grandchild and you will worry about that child the same way. I say this as I sit coming from a phone call with my mum doing her daily check in to make sure we’re both okay.

Trust your instinct and if concerned tonight go to A&E.

If a child has taken less then 50 % of normal fluid intake they need to be seen. So do go if this is the case - the GP can have a plan and you can go to A&E both can happen in parallel.

If your baby is working hard to breathe or anything you are worried about just go to your local A&E or phone 111

Ds was found to have a heart murmur at 6 weeks old. By the time he saw the specialist at 12 weeks, it had gone.

But also I have a friend who's dd has a heart murmur. She's nearly 30 now and does marathons etc. She has an annual check-up but never had any issues.

I have a heart murmur due to MVP. I have lived a normal life, had children, exercise a lot and am now late fifties.

My teen daughter has 3 heart anormalities but no murmur.

I would ask for your daughter to be referred to paediatric cardiologist.

How is your daughter today? Have you taken her to A&E?

I took my son to a walk in centre due to an allergic reaction at 9 weeks old. Whilst there they noticed a heart murmur so we were referred for a heart scan a few months later. It was a little flap somewhere letting more blood through causing the murmur but this corrected itself over time now the murmur has gone and never caused any issues when it was there. I was beside myself with worry at first thought.
