Invisalign for 10 year old

DC 10 was seen for a first consultation by an orthodontist today. The orthodontist recommended starting with an Invisalign treatment to treat DC’s overbite and crowding prior to another orthodontic treatment at a later date when all DC’s adult teeth are out.

Has anybody had this experience with their children around this age and was it worth the Invisalign cost?

Yes my 9 year old is currently a year in to wearing a retainer brace before getting Invisalign at 10! Her overbite is so bad her jaw needs realignment first, but it’s well worth the cost and hopefully means by the time she’s a teenager they will be ok!

Invisalign's technology is fantastic and generally much faster than traditional braces. Worth the money imo

DD had Invisalign between 14/15 - it was fabulous and she got on really well with it, results were brilliant. I would however have big reservations with getting it for a 10 year old though. DD was particularly mature for her age at 10 and even then I’m not sure she would’ve been able to cope.

The commitment needed to it is massive and compared to her friends with braces there was far more upkeep needed on a daily basis. In order for them to work properly they need to be worn 22 hours per day. This means snack and meal times need to be monitored and kept to a minimum. Nothing except for water can be drank when they are in. No grazing throughout the day etc as each time you eat the aligners need to be removed, cleaned, teeth brushed before putting them in again. This could prove especially difficult at school when break + lunch times are restricted.

Thank you so much for your replies.

The orthodontist said DC will only need to wear them during evenings and at night so not worrying about time at school.

If it’s only evenings and night maybe.

ds age 15 didn’t get on with them at all. He was supposed to wear them 23 hours a day. He hated taking them out to eat at school, plus they only get 30 mins so had to eat, clean his teeth, then put them back in. They also used to either fall out at night or he was subconsciously taking them out.

he also swims every day so had to take them out for that.

long story short they were out more than in. Switched to train tracks which did the job much more effectively and quicker.

with dd I didn’t even ask about Invisalign. Went straight for the train tracks.

Train tracks are far quicker. Invisalign will earn the ortho a lot more ££ though. I don't know many kids who like wearing their retainers, and that's really what Invisalign is. At 10 it'll be annoying to keep badgering her to make sure it's in, clean and not lost.
