Son not running very fast anymore

I posted this in child development but also posting here as it’s a bit of both…

Worried about my son because he has always been by far the fastest in his class, always won sports day etc. All of a sudden he looks like he’s struggling with running fast, getting tired quickly- my only concern is do all kids go through similar as they’re growing or could it be a health issue? I’m not bothered about him winning races I’m worried he’s got a deficiency or some other health problem. It seems like a really trivial thing to ask a doctor I just can’t shake the feeling of concern. He’s a super sporty child so it’s an issue I keep being confronted with as he is always doing sports.

How old is he? It could be that some of the others are ahead of him in terms of puberty so are finding it easier than he is if they are building muscle faster than him.

One bad sports day or more of a repeat pattern?

He’s 8, not just sports day, noticed it at football as well.

It could be to do with growth I suppose, he has always been on the taller side for his age but others have caught him up, or nearly caught him up. He hasn’t really grown a lot for a while his feet haven’t grown for a very long time, is that a worry?

At that age I don't think it is a big concern, although obviously keep an eye on it. Yes if others are now his height or taller then they will be able to run faster. Also if he was originally one of the oldest in the class then things might be beginning to even out a little. In terms of future height though it is better to go through puberty later so he may end up taller than others.

Take. Video of him running
For comparison in a few months
Well you probably have some already so compare now and a year ago, is there something different like his gait? Or not?
