Please read - low neutrophils- worried sick

Took my son to a&e today as he’s had on and off temps for weeks and I was feeling really worried. He was crying alot saying ouch and I didn’t feel right waiting for the GP tomorrow.
All his blood tests came back normal apart from neutrophils. The doctor said normal range (starts at?) I think 40 and his were 38. She wasn’t concerned but after googling I am and I feel sick with worry.
Can anyone help please? Going to follow up with the GP this week.

I think but not 100% that could mean he has an infection - of some sort. Nothing sinister. The rest of the blood tests are normal which is positive

Im hoping it’s a result of him being ‘off’ for a few weeks with viruses etc.
But then again, the low neutrophils can cause them to pick up more illnesses.
Going round in a loop with worry :(

Low neutrophils detected during illnesses are really common, unless there are features in the story suggesting an immune system problem it's very unlikely this represent a recurrent problem. The quoted "normal ranges" are pretty meaningless out of context. How old is your child?

Well it turns out this was nothing to worry about. I went to the gp today to find out his bloods taken yesterday were absolutely perfect and all within normal range. They read of the blood results from when he had sepsis in January… very disappointed about that but it happens in a busy a&e setting
