New Teeth grinding+ breath gasping in 7 year old? Help!

No idea if the 2 are related but have started at same time.
new horrid teeth grinding during day, so took her to dentist who said No obvious cause and most new cases of day form grinding are reflux related. I said I didn’t think it was this as she shows no sign of reflux but would monitor it.
few days later she started doing this weird sporadic deep breath where it looks like she’s taking a huge breath and then Immediately goes back to normal. Says she feels she needs to take these deep breaths. Day time only and not linked to asthma or exercise and Gp stumped but as sats are ok wasn’t
overly concerned.
its not nice hearing
the grinding or seeing her stop and take this huge deep breath in while bending over but otherwise is healthy so gp wants to watch and wait.
i read some article saying reflux can cause both grinding and breathing issues so just wondering if it could be? Or any other ideas?

Could be more like a new tic?

wobblymum1 · 05/07/2023 22:14

I wondered this.
shes never had tics
before, her brother has but never a breathing one so this is new to me and I’m nervous to miss something more serious breathing wise by putting it down to a tic (her brother has more typical ones like the ones Lewis capaldi has bravely highlighted recently, so more motor ones shrugging and blinking and head tilting)

seeing as it’s breathing I would want other things checked out too. It’s just the way she said it felt like she had to do it. My son started having tics and they turned up like as if a switch had been switched on. Not there and then one second later they were there. He said the same, it felt like he had to do them.

I had exactly that breathing thing briefly as a child. My mum took me to a cranial osteopath and it went away. They also can help with teeth grinding/tmj issues. So if you don't get answers from GP that might be worth a try.

This is so so reassuring to hear, thank you!
