Dental abcess and tooth removal

DD8 has a wobbly molar and a few days ago I noticed an abcess above it on the gum. Took her to the dentist and they said that they would have to pull it (with no pain relief) as there is food getting trapped under it causing the abcess. DD was very upset and started panicking so the dentist said to go home and try to get it out by eating hard things and to go back next week if its not out. It is still attached to the outer gum so it doesn't look like it will be coming out any time soon
Has anyone else had experience of this, is this the norm not to give pain relief?

If it's a baby tooth connected by only a tiny bit of gum a quick tug and it's out. Most children will keep on playing with the tooth and get it out themselves . This is good to encourage because at 8 she has a lot more baby teeth to come out . However some children get a bit screamish about wobbling their teeth out .
If she doesn't get it out then often no anaesthetic is needed if it's not held on by anything. Sometimes a quick squirt of topical anaesthetic is given but this is more to reassure than do anything .
Just encourage her to work at the tooth , really wobble it hard . It's a bit sore and can bleed a bit but better she does it than the dentist.

I had my canines pulled age about 12 and had local anesthetic. Molars have more roots! It wasn't infected so maybe that's the difference...

Baby tooth molars have no roots at all by the time they are ready to come out . They are just attached by gum. Same as all baby teeth , the roots are eaten away as the adult tooth underneath gets ready to replace the baby tooth.

When it comes to children, we are very concerned about every choice, especially about their health. I have a granddaughter. I always tell my daughter to try to minimize the use of chemicals if there is a better alternative with fewer or no chemicals. My granddaughter, too, had a similar experience. So we opted for biological dentistry. It is a good option for adults, not just for children. You may get in touch with a good biological dentist. So both you and the child have to worry less.

Thanks everyone. Sorry, I forgot to update this post. The abcess actually disappeared a few days later and then the tooth came out a few days after that, so we didn't need to go back. She is now scared of going back to the dentist though 🙈
