One year jabs and fever PLEASE help

Hi everyone. Please no nasty comments as I am a fist time mum. Genuine help please.

My little one had his 1st year jabs last Wednesday (21st June). He had a temp the night after as expected. Since last Friday until yesterday his temp has been 37.4/37.5 which is borderline normal/slightly elevated - logically speaking I think this is because of his jabs but I’m not sure if this normal?

My main concern is that since yesterday he’s has a high temp - 38.9/39. It does come down with calpol but just before the 4 hour mark ends and I have to top up again as it goes to 39. He is a bit unsettled so I give the calpol. I’m just concerned that it’s now been over a week and he’s now got a high temp - some 9 days after the injections. Has anyone else experienced something similar and if so, how long did your little one fever last?

thank you in advance

Oh this is hard and I'm sorry. We had a fever with our DD at the age of 1 which I think was a combination of a lot of things but ended up in A&E after she had a temp for 14 days. We ended up with a diagnosis of various viruses which eventually went away. I'd say if you're particularly worried then do call 111 to have him checked. It's not unusual for flare ups post vaccine but it could equally be something else. Trust your instincts because you know him best. Hope he's better soon

Yes, this is normal after 1 year vaccinations. About 10 days after the measles part of the vaccination starts to work and can get fever, loss of appetite and sometimes a rash. Happened to both of my kids

Thanks SophieHope7 - yes, it is hard. I’ve just stumbled on the nhs website which says that the MMR vaccine can kick in between 7-11 days. I wasn’t told this by the nurse. Hoping it is just that and will go away in a few days. So worried :(

If you’re at all worried get in touch with the out of hours service. They would rather you got him checked than miss anything else going on. I think they would prioritise such a young child too. Hope he feels better very soon.

Poor little man. Definitely call 111, as there's a limit on how long you can give calpol for, I think? They would definitely want to speak to you if you are worried.

I wonder if he’s bounced from the vaccinations into an unrelated bug, happened with DS and scared the crap out of me. But if you are at all concerned, call 111, it’s what they’re there for.

Thanks @montimama - can you remember how long the MMR fever lasted for with you two little ones?

They both had fevers from days 10-14 roughly. I didn’t try and keep the fever down as it’s the body doing its job, but I did give calpol if they got grumpy or I could tell they were not themselves.

@montimama thank you. That’s reassuring. Yes, we try not to give calpol and ibuprofen but when it hits 38.5 he seems unsettled and irritable so we’re ‘forced’ to give it.

Hi @ksabps
i know it’s been a long time but I’m in the same boat currently :(

the fever started 3 days ago, so 6 days post vaccine and today it’s at its worst.

do you know how many days it lasted with your LO?

or @montimama do you remember ? :(

I must add during the day it’s not as bad it’s just night time it’s worse. I thought she’s teething but I’m getting worried now
