Fixed Braces - Any Tips 'n' Tricks

Hi,
DD11 got her fixed braces fitted today after 9 months of twin blocks. She has come home with a leaflet but I was looking for any tips and tricks from people who have been through it already with their DC. I heard water flossers can be good (any recommendations)? I've got dental wax.
Looks like cleaning is tricky!

Thanks in advance

Sorry, also any snack ideas. She usually has oatcakes etc for playpiece at school, think they might be okay still.

Take some painkillers before she gets them put on, and some straight afterwards as well. Maybe ibuprofen before and paracetamol after. Keep on top of the pain relief for the first couple of days because it is really painful but very soon settles. My daughter could only eat extremely soft foods for a few days, but again soon got used to it and was able to eat a much wider range of foods. Fizzy drinks are particularly bad whilst they have fixed braces so try to avoid those. My daughter found cleaning above her braces with a small gentle toothbrush best and then used her normal toothbrush for the rest of her mouth. The toothbrushes wear out quickly though because of the metal braces. Good luck to her, and you!!

Thank you! I timed the appointment badly as it's her birthday party this weekend. Oops! They said to only drink milk and water, not even sparkling water.

My DS got upper and lower fixed braces on Thursday last week and he's been absolutely fine. He hasn't had to use the dental wax yet and has had barely any pain. He ate pasta and soft foods for the first few days but he can eat most foods now (avoiding hard and crusty bread). His dentist said he could have one fizzy drink a week through a straw.

Try and get hold of some Iglu brace gel (looks like it might be out of stock at the moment though). DS really rated it.

Avoid foods with lots of melted cheese. It's a so and so to get out of the brackets (so if those are Staffordshire oatcakes you might want to cut back).

The orthodontist recommended some green interdental brushes so have got those and a little brace cleaning kit (in purple!) just to keep in her school bag. Lots of useful tips thank you!

DD also has the fixed braces on her top and bottom teeth (although her bottom teeth look straight but must be a reason for both of them). The twin blocks weren't very pleasant either.
