Migraine medication

My 11 Yr old has migraines. She was prescribed sumatriptan a few months ago, which she has used when needed. Her migraines have become more frequent and they have prescribed pro panolol to use daily. I am reluctant to start her on daily medication at such a young ago. I have tried homeopathic tablets, bringing her to a chiropractor, making sure she gets a good night sleep. Has anyone else had experience of using beta blockers for migraines at this age. I just read the possible side effects and worry about her taking them, even though I know it's a low dose. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Have you kept a migraine diary. You may be able to identify some more triggers.
DDs are tiredness, hunger, certain strip lights (or a combination of these).
how often is she getting a migraine?

It could also be related to hormonal changes, my migraines are very closely tied to my monthly cycle. Hers might be getting worse now if her hormones are starting to change.
Keeping a diary is really useful for spotting patterns.

Hi@BLT2022 . My daughter suffered from severe recurrent abdominal migraines from about age seven. We were prescribed a preventative low daily dose of Pizotifen (0.5mg) and latterly Ondesetron (to prevent vomiting). This worked extremely well in reducing the frequency, which at its height was about every ten days, down to about once every six weeks, and latterly pretty much eradicated them altogether. We saw a gastroenterologist Consultant who was superb. The medication did make her a little tired, so we gave it around tea time. No other side effects and rigorous follow up. Whilst I have no experience of the medications you have been prescribed, I do understand how you feel. I also kept a diary as suggested by a PP to see if there was any correlation between days, times, food and activities etc.

Thank you for the advice. Hers are definitely triggered by tiredness, so we make sure she has a good routine, and I think if she is anxious about anything that doesn't help. I was wondering if hormones might be playing a part aswell.
She usually gets approx 2 a month but last week she had 2, which made me consider just starting her on the daily medication. I keep track of the migraines but I'll start a proper diary to see if I can work out a pattern.
Thanks

My daughter suffers from chronic migraine , she now 12. She's been on propanolol for a couple of years . It did seem to work at first with no side effects . Its stopped working now though so we are considering a different medication Her migraines have got worse since puberty hit , its been a nightmare for her

Hi just came across your post & was wondering if you decided to give this meditation & did it work? We’ve been prescribed it today for my 9yo dd & I’m unsure about giving it.
