DDs mood/energy/hunger levels

Not sure how best to title this but it relates to DD, age 11. She swings very quickly between being full of energy, bright and happy to pale, tired and complaining of tummy ache.
One example is at night. She will look exhausted, be laying on her bed half and complaining of tummy ache. I tell her she has to get changed and brush her teeth. She will reluctantly do it and then come bouncing out of the bathroom full of energy and unable to sleep for another half an hour.
Or the other day we went clothes shopping which she enjoys but as soon as we got to the shopping centre she looked droopy, pale and had tummy ache. I made her come in and found her a comfy chair to sit on while I browsed for 10 minutes. Came back and she was back to full colour and energy again.
Another example is that she will say she is starving up until the point that I say dinner is ready. Then suddenly she’s not hungry. I usually plate it up and she comes down about 10 minutes later and polishes it off.
None of it is that serious but it happens so often.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Is anyone diabetic on the family? Or maybe episodes of low blood pressure. Any signs she is anaemic?

Confuzzleduzzled · 25/06/2023 11:04

@YoungWild no diabetics in the family and I don’t think she’s anemic. The low energy mood will switch back into being full of energy without eating anything so I don’t think it’s that.

It might be worth a chat with the GP in slow time. Maybe some bloods to check everything x

Totally agree on blood checks first of all. It sounds very much like anemia to me. Symptoms of anemia are not always suffered but can come and go..

Definitely request bloods with your gp.

I really don’t think it’s anaemia. The low periods last around half an hour. It’s just that she switches between high and low so quickly and often. She does 7 hours of gymnastics per week which I don’t think she would be able to do with anaemia.

My daughter who was 12 at the time did gymnastics and trampolining for over 12 months at the time of showing the same symptoms as your daughter. It turned out she was low in iron and was anemic.
