Yep perfectly normal, really the only thing for it is time! Her tongue will build up resistance and get used to it in a week or so. Ibuprofen isn’t really recommended as it slows down tooth movement so I’d maybe try paracetamol instead. DD had her Invisalign between 14/15 and we were so impressed by it, she had a great ‘journey’ and fab results. You’ve definitely made the right decision to go for it, although admittedly the first week or two was rough!

Thankyou so much for the reassurance it seems that it’s the bottom tray which feels rough
I’m going to phone the orthodontist this morning

I've had Invisalign as an adult it worked brilliantly, if there are little rough bits you can always file them slightly with an emery board / nail file. I've also taken paracetamol and ibuprofen and it didn't slow down my teeth movement. They can adjust / make new retainers as needed through out the process.

Thankyou for your reply and advice , my poor dd couldn’t eat dinner last night because of the soreness. I have to say evisalign are brilliant you’d never notice that she was wearing them .
The trouble is she’s a whinger when it comes to pain

I'm very sorry your daughter is suffering so much, I really do understand it's horrible feeling and a different type of pain then I had felt before so I get it's a big adjustment. I know it won't help for now but the more she wears it the quicker the teeth will move and wearing that particular set of retainers will stop hurting. It will still hurt moving to the next one but if is very painful as long as she is wearing them she can take longer between changing to each new set of retainer if that helps to almost have a break from the pain. I would definitely feel around the edges for any sharp bits on every new set though cause even the smallest little edge feels huge in your mouth.

Thankyou that’s precisely what she said is that the bottom set feels a bit sharp I’m going to phone the orthodontist this morning

Not sure if you’ve got sorted yet but I do remember the orthodontist saying we could file DD’s tray down a bit where it was annoying her just with a regular nail file x

Thankyou for your reply she found some orthodontic wax in our cupboard and it seems to have eased the sharp edge
I spoke to the orthodontist this morning and she said it’s fine .

I was super uncomfortable for the first few days, needed painkillers, orthodontic wax and bonjela for all the sore bits! It got better every tray change

I hope so for my dd she’s feeling very sorry for herself she’s only 16
