Anxious about 1 year vaccinations

Concernedkay · 20/06/2023 14:57

Baby is due to have his 1 year vaccinations next month. The 4 in 1 mmr, menC and boosters of the previous jabs. Very anxious because of the controversy and having so many in one day. Can anyone share their experiences? How was your baby after? Thank you

Is this just me being paranoid or an actual risk?

Mostly paranoia, but all the more reason to get those vaccines!

Go and read Roald Dahl's 1988 open letter about his daughter. Any doubts you have should be squashed by this.

It will not harm you child to have them all in one day.

kernowpicklepie · 20/06/2023 16:30

It is a lot in one go but my DD was fine.
She actually ended up having 5 vaccines because the nurse gave her an incorrect one and she still needed another one. Because of that, she got really upset when she saw her preparing it.
She had a few issues with nurses for a few months after that but she's been fine since and she's almost 2 now.

DD was quite sleepy afterwards but was fine really. They gave her one in each arm and one in each leg, although I've read most places just do 2 in each leg.

Your DC will be fine. I've seen some people split the appointments but I think that just drags it out longer

If I were doing it again with my kids I would be very selective with which jabs they got.
I think spreading them out seems wise. You are the parent, go with your instincts.

This is dangerously unhelpful. Don't write things like this flippantly.

Omg the more I'm reading about measles the more I'm worrying about them toys from earlier 😩 I wish I sprayed them down myself

Many people on MN will tell you that measles is a doodle, nothing to worry about. That's rubbish.

I did horribly in year one because I couldn't hear the teacher, and no one had twigged to my measles-induced hearing loss. I've had to wear hearing aids my whole life.

The only controversy is created by anti-vaxxers who peddle their own dangerous agendas. Threads like this will attract a couple of ones still out in the wild (as you can see).

This is a pointless thing to worry about; just get your baby vaccinated.

It's cruel to spread them out

SOBplus · 20/06/2023 17:13

If honestly worried, don't be. Chances of an infection from chance contact encounter are absolutely tiny. In this case worry is wasted, just go on with life/plans but PLEASE get vaccinated for the old known diseases with the PROVEN effective vaccines/treatments. Those vaccines around for over 15 years have been hugely studied and are proven effective and SAFE!

Thanks for all your responses. I've been reading lots of previous threads on here about it all as I'm obviously anxious about the risk of a bad reaction and I'm coming across autism and autoimmune disease links. I've just been diagnosed with auto immune thyroid disease either triggered by pregnancy or a virus over the winter. My mum also has rheumatoid arthritis which is an autoimmune disease as well. Does this make my baby more at risk of adverse reactions to the vaccines?

I definitely don't want to leave him vulnerable to measles, I do want him to be vaccinated so will vaccinate him whether it's the mmr or singles jab but I just would like to know what the risks are here as I have just recently been diagnosed with autoimmune disease and it does run in my family.

If you have a specific concern, contact your surgery and speak to a GP.
If needed ask if they can check data regarding this.

Don't ask random strangers; talk to your GP.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 22/06/2023 07:21

If you've "come across" autism then you've "come across" the fact that the person who lied to parents about the non-existent link between the MMR vaccine and autism was not only discredited totally by the actual facts, but also struck off as a doctor having caused untold damage for years.

inappropriateraspberry · 22/06/2023 07:45

Please, the person you need to be worried about is yourself. This concern and anxiety is not normal.
You cannot continue to worry about every grubby thing your child touches (everything!) and you have to be careful that your child doesn't pick up on this as they get older - you will be passing it on to them and it is no way to live.
The vaccinations are given to babies and children every day with no issues, my children didn't even cry! You are catastrophising over simple procedures that are there for the good of your child.

Boomboxinmyattic · 22/06/2023 08:06

Speak to your GP about your health anxiety, which is preventing you from making responsible decisions about your child's future health. And stop going down antivax rabbit holes.

Boomboxinmyattic · 22/06/2023 08:07

... I have a feeling you won't take any of this on board though, and your poor child will end up under-vaccinated 😪.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 22/06/2023 08:18

The whole 'vaccines cause autism' scandal was utterly debunked years OK op, as pp said, the doctor was struck off. Untold damage for years and years after his scare-mongering read a little about his research, who he did the research on, and his methods, and try if you can to liken that to any serious, wide-spread, ethical research that is being undertaken literally anywhere else in the nhs and beyond).

My ds went nuts when we arrived for his 3yo vaccines because he'd seen his tiny sister get upset at her 2,3 and 4m appointments. Dragging them out at 1yo is going to leave him way more upset than getting them done all in one go.

FlounderingFruitcake · 22/06/2023 10:15

You can’t get full protection with single vaccines because the mumps one is no longer made. MMR is the best and safest choice. Sorry but I really don’t understand how you can be so paranoid about a slightly grubby toy transmitting measles yet be considering not fully vaccinating because it makes zero sense.

The "nurse" should have been reported and no longer allowed anywhere near children for spreading dangerous lies.
