DD has had a fungal infection on four of her toes on one foot only since she was 2. They told me then that it was nothing and would disappear soon enough. A year on, I took her back to the gp, they took a sample and said fungal infection, and gave us an ointment. A year on, no change, different ointment. A year on, different potion, still no joy. We have been filing and trimming, and applying all the lotions and potions. I bought curanail otc despite it not being quite aimed at children her age (7, last year), didn't help. It's been at least six years, and nothing it helping.

I think they need to be extracted.
Can I push for this?

Or any other solutions?

I have it three years and currently trying nailoc and think there is some small improvement. I put the plug in bath and add AC vinegar when showering, use electric nail file and proper clippers etc. A huge part of my big toenail came away, crumbled really and came away then when clipped but it looks like being thick again when growing back. It's an absolute pain and very difficult for such a young child. My DSis used rejuvenail and it worked but I think used it v early on which possibly made the difference.

Thanks for info.
I wish it was me instead of DD. I'm old and don't really look at my feet. She's a girly girl already and is really conscious of them already :/

My DD has one foot exactly the same as your pic, so frustrating the GP keep fobbing us off with the medicated nail varnish so I'm watching this thread for tips.

Yes! And I was fobbed off when I first took her to the GP who said it was nothing and would just disappear on its own. How old is your DD? Wanna share a pic?

I've had athletes foot and then resulting crappy toe nails since I was a teen so about 15 years now. Lamasil kicks it temporarily but weirdly so do footner style peels, after a while I noticed that after a peel some of my affected my toe nails would temporarily grow in normal looking. The peeling and slightly deformed thing comes back on some of them eventually but it's something. I can never remember to do it regularly to try and see if I can make it stick. Doesn't help my thicken toenail though, I don't think anything will.

I saw a YouTube video of someone treating their fungal foot issue with a peeling mask because something in them is anti fungal, not sure though. I think the main ingredient is something like salicylic, lactic, glycolic, citric acid which work as chemical exfoliants but idk if they're anti fungal

Will look at your tips, thank you.

The big toe is pretty thick, the others are thicker than they should be, gnarly and crackly-looking. I really am desperate for it to all clear up.

I want to know if anyone has had laser treatment for it? And how effective is it? I can fork out for the expense but it is a very long drive away from me so that’s what stopping me at the moment,

@FAFO it's my son and yes they are clearing up now. I was also concerned about the side effects but he's had none. Tbh if your DD has had this for 6 years out of 8 then it's not going to go away without medication but she's probably too young for it to be prescribed anyway. I think the nurse said they had to be 12 but I'm not 100% on that x

Ah, sorry. Glad for you both.

I think it's 12, yeah.

Op so far I have been using mycosan and vapourub.
the vapourub is anecdotal 😑. There is a slight improvement. No help from GP as mine is mild atm but it is definitely spreading after 3 years of being completely static.

We've tried vaporub too. Smells nice, at least!

Did vapourub not work?

User1437957 · 01/07/2023 21:20

I have been applying it diligently.

mikado1 · 01/07/2023 21:30

Vaporub did not work for me and I kept it going daily for weeks and weeks. However it does moisturise the nail so it certainly looks better.

Hi,

Did you manage to heal your daughter's nail fungus? I discovered nail fungus on one of my daughter's toes when she was around 2. I think it is from my husband who had it since her birth and chose not to treat himself (hate him for that!). Since it was confirmed that she has nail fungus, we tried everything we could. Nail polishes never worked for her. I then tried to heal it with Ayurveda using quite complicated regimen. It got better but we didn't follow it to the dot (for example, skipped a day of soaking with ACV), so it never went away. In any case, the Ayurveda practitioner I worked with was saying that topical solutions are not enough, and you need to heal it from inside. I then met an Indian guy who used to be an Ayurveda practitioner, too ,and he said to apply a mix (paste like) of sulphur powder with coconut oil. That's what we are currently doing hoping for the best. I would like to visit a podiatrist but definitely won't allow any oral medication due to their side effect. I also would like to try a laser. Do you have an experience with that? My daughter is now 5.5, still not self conscious, but I am worried about her nails so much. She is so young to have it 😭.
