My daughter has been bitten a lot recently, and now this one has come up like this? I've got ice on it at the moment (wrapped in towel) and given her an antihistamine.. does anyone know what I can use that is effective to stop her getting bitten as obviously it's bothering her and could do without more of these the size of her actual knee!!!! Never seen one so bloody big!

That looks like a bullseye rash - the kind you get from a tick? Hopefully wrong but I’d get a doctor to check them ASAP as it’s a Lyme disease risk. Don’t panic as probably fine but it needs to be checked for sure.

Timeforaliein · 18/06/2023 13:40

Agree with PP. DD had this when she was 18 months - dr will need to prescribe antibiotics

Singleandproud · 18/06/2023 13:44

I get bites like that whenever I get bitten by horse flies etc, It looks more red irritation than bulls eye to me but no harm in getting it checked out.
Along with what you've done, ibuprofen for the inflammation, you can buy a bite zapper from the chemist that puts a tiny electric charge out and reduces the itching and if you think the red zo e is getting bigger draw around it with a sharpie

Yes to double up on the previous poster that does look like a bullseye rash. Has she had a tickbite? It's important to get treated with the right antibiotics as soon as possible if it is Lymes. Again, don't panic. But when one of my family had a similar looking rash (which we knew was the result of a tick as there had been a tick there) we phoned NHS 24 (I think it might be NHS111 in England) and we were given an appt with doctor early next morning and they prescribed antibiotics straight away. We were in an area where they are very aware of it and the risks. Lymes can be knocked on the head if treated in good time. But it's important to treat it asap.

Thanks everyone, I took her to the pharmacy and they've given stronger antihistamines and they wanted to give her cream as well but apparently everyone is having the same issue as can't get hold of it so need to keep trying for that. Thanks for all your replies x

So this is her bite today after the shower... She is taking the antihistamines like pharmacist said and was told it should go down within seven days.. obviously I don't wanna keep taking her and feeling stupid but is this normal from previous pictures to this? Xx

I also thought bullseye rash when I saw that. It might be worth a doctors appointment. Have you been somewhere like the woods? How is she feeling in herself?

FeigningConcern · 20/06/2023 18:46

My bites often come up like that. Usually a blister on the end too. It's an allergy to mosquito bites. Check out Skeeter Syndrome.

my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23289-skeeter-syndrome#:~:text=What%20is%20skeeter%20syndrome%3F,that%20they%20have%20trouble%20moving.

Blessedbethefruitz · 20/06/2023 19:05

That initial picture looks like an allergy to me - I have skeeter syndrome too, but I go into anaphylaxis 12-24 hours later - but the second pics look not great, don't like the dark colour. Mine fade rather than go dark when I'm treated with extra antihistamines and steroids. I'd take her to the gp. You can't be too safe.

Dilbertian · 20/06/2023 19:26

That bruised appearance is not good. Has the discolouration or swelling increased? Is it hot? Is she well in herself? With just the bruised appearance, I would be going to OOH medical care. Add any other symptoms and I would be concerned about cellulitis and go to A&E.

OdeToBarney · 20/06/2023 19:42

I'd be straight into OOO GP or walk in with that update OP!

Doopersuper · 20/06/2023 19:50

That’s needs to be looked at by a dr asap. Make sure you also show them the first picture that looked like a bullseye rash too!!

nisham30 · 20/06/2023 22:26

Thank you all for replying 😊 she is absolutely fine in herself, she went to school today and had no problems at school, she does walk to and from school which means walking through the common which is grass etc (where horses are) and she does go to the park after school with friends so could be anything... She has never had problems with bites before just seems to be this year.

I have just got home from work and she is asleep now, but I will keep checking on her, it doesn't look as bruised as the picture she has sent me.. still rather big and swollen but not as purple/bruised so wondering if the shower she had made it worse as it's calmed now? I will check again in the morning and if no better I'll get her back for a second opinion from pharmacist xx

Look up Lyme Disease
www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease/

The rash could be indicative, and walking through high grass is definitely a risk factor for ticks.

Despite not feeling serious, barely even being ill, Lyme Disease needs immediate antibiotics. It is easy to treat and completely curable in its first phase. Untreated, it can progress to life-long debilitation.

ChubbyChinook · 20/06/2023 23:14

I'd take her to G.P not pharmacist again.

So she has a bite, which looks infected but could also be a tick bite, and you've just left it? I hope she's okay this morning OP.

Lelly0503 · 21/06/2023 22:58

Hi I am literally going through exact same scenario! My youngest was bitten by mosquitos & a tick 10 days ago , been on antibiotics since then and will do for another 2 weeks as he had a bullseye bite. his mosquito bites have gone purple too. I phoned 111 this evening as I was worried about the purple-ness especially after 10 days of being on antibiotics and they advised pharmacy. Im going to do an e-consult with my GP instead and send them the photos so I will keep you posted OP.

I hope people think I haven't "just left it" as stated above 😅 my GP/hospital here is useless.. I'm still waiting on an urgent referral for my son who has lumps around his head (one being there since last march 2022) the doctor urgently referred him and he has been waiting to be put on the waiting list since end of February 😅 so when it comes to all this I'm actually scared of asking for help! That's why I came here... I have done another e-consult form last night as they don't do appointments over the telephone..

I did an econsult form 4 days ago and that's when they sent me to the pharmacist wouldn't even allow me to see a doctor with her and he didn't even look at it properly just glanced down at her leg and told me she needs cream and antihistamines... I paid for the antihistamines but they told me they didn't have the cream as so many people having the same problem..

This is her bite last night... I am getting her seen xx

Hope she's doing ok OP. The GP situation sounds awful- I thought our area was bad but we can at least get appointments.

NerdyMama · 03/10/2023 07:49

Hey op, can you please update on what this was and the outcome for your daughter? It looks like Lyme disease and my son is going through a similar experience.

Thanks
