bed wetting problems

Ds is 10. He has been on the max dose of desmopressin for a year now for bed wetting which has helped a lot but he is still wetting his pull ups every night and still wetting through his pyjamas, sheet and duvet cover 2-3 times a week.

He has been referred to the children's continence team at the hospital but they said he "doesn't meet the criteria" and referred him to the school nurse.

The school nurse said to keep a poo diary and measure all drinks/wees which and were expecting but then she said she thought he had an overactive bladder. But when I googled he doesn't have any symptoms and none of the causes apply. All the ideas to help avoid it we are doing already.

Does anyone have any experience or advice? We've been through this with my eldest but he just needed the minimum dose of desmopressin and that did the trick.

Ds 14 takes those tablets. We were told no fizzy drinks at all. No drinks after the tablet. No mention of limiting water in the evenings before the tablet... If ds takes it at a sensible time like 10 pm it works. Any later it doesn't.. Does your dc take it literally at bedtime?

Thankyou. We already do all of that and he takes the melt thing at 8pm, 1 hour before bed.

I’ve had this with my son. Does he have any sort of anxiety? Do you leave a couple of hours before bed without too much water?

We are struggling also with my 9 year old.
One of the teachers at school mentioned her daughter wasn't dry until 13 & just a matter of waiting for the ADH hormone to develop . I'm not sure though.

Thankyou. No anxiety and no drinks after 6pm. My eldest didn't develop the making less wee at night hormone until he was older and I think my 10 year old has the same problems but more severe.

Hmm that is strange, I assume he does a wee before sleeping too. Sorry I’m not sure I have any advice, my son stopped weeing the bed at 11 completely although it was from a slightly different cause. Perhaps it’ll just take time, in the meantime try and get the best pullups you can for absorption

Just thought I would update to say that we saw the school nurse yesterday and after showing her the diary she changed her mind about the over active bladder thing and thinks that isn't the case. We've been told to make sure he drinks at least 500 mls before school and encourage him to drink most of his drinks in the morning. We were already doing no drinks in the evening but I hadn't realised that more drinks in the morning and less in the afternoon would make much difference. We've also been told to ditch his water bottle at school because 3-4 cups of water with breaks in between is better than sips constantly through the day. Other than that we are doing all the right things.
