Persistent high temp

Help please! My 16 month old son has had a temperature for going on 48 hours on and off. It peaked at 39.4 and is hovering around the 38.5 mark when he's sleeping. He's had periods throughout the last couple of days where his temp has come back down to normal range and he's been pretty happy and content, usually through alternating between infant nurofen and calpol.

Problem is, I've now spotted some spots on his body (chickenpox most likely as there was an outbreak on a recent cruise we went on) which means we can no longer use the ibuprofen and we found that was the best thing to bring his temp down! He's at his limit for the amount of calpol he can have (last given at 7.30) and his temp is around 38.5 and he just isn't settling at all and seems so uncomfortable.

I contacted the GP yesterday and they said to monitor the situation and to use medicines where needed (didn't know it was chickenpox at this point) but now I can't use ibuprofen, calpol just isn't keeping his temp down. Do I need to contact the GP again/111? Or will this result in the same advice again?

I can't rest - I'm so worried!
