Lump on eyebrow

Just looking opinions on this. DS started with a small lump on his eyebrow over a month ago…i thought he had knocked it on something however when it didnt go away I took him to docs and he said maybe an infected cyst and gave an antibiotic. It then got bigger and he was put on a 2nd antibiotic. It has now grown even larger and much redder. How quickly do cysts grow? Have another appt this afternoon as I’m just not happy about it.
Has anyone dealt with something that looked like this??

How did the appointment go?

This is a prime spot for a cyst. I have one on my eyebrow but not as big as this. It was there for months then disappeared. I have one in my lip that I’ve had for 28 years ( you can’t see it from the outside). They’re very variable. You can have them cut out. It’s a small incision and they pop out like a cheesy ball but they’ll probably want to see if it reduces on its own first.

They have put him on a 3rd antibiotic as they said it is filling up fast and they have been in touch again with dermatology and flagged him as urgent now.
I feel like the antibiotics have been useless so far though!!

Please do get this looked at. My daughter had a lump the GP said was an infected cyst. She was on antibiotics but the lump (arm) kept growing. Went to GOSH in the end (three months later, lump now bigger than a pea) and it was a rare type of cyst that needed to be cut out (thankfully benign). Not saying this is common but don't be fobbed off. Is going private an option for a dermatology appt?

I was debating taking him up to a&e as quite a few people have suggested taking him there as the doctors aren’t really helping very much!

It really looks like a sebaceous cyst and if this is the case, it is not surprising antibiotics did nothing because it is not an infection.
Surgical excision is the only way to remove it. A sebaceous cyst is completely benign, it is a small sac that contains a mix of keratin, skin debris and a bit of fat. Think cottage cheese texture. It can become inflamed.

Sorry it is taking so long to be seen.

@elmo89 - please can I ask what happened with your DS? Was it a sebaceous cyst?

user1487797255 · 20/11/2023 17:18

Have a look at pilomatrixoma images - not known about very much, but they can be large bluish lumps under the skin.
