Hayfever

My DD aged 6 seems to really suffer with hayfever. Her eyes get so red and swell up to the point where she can hardly see. We've tried piriton and benadryl but neither have really worked. She does rub her eyes (which I've told her not to) and I've asked school to try to keep her off the field. I'm waiting on a call back from the GP but wondered if anyone else had experience of such severe hayfever and if anything worked that I've not tried? Thanks in advance!

Yes,

I had that from about that age.

Since moving 250 miles away my symptoms are much less than they used to be, but my eyes used to "glue themselves shut" over night, to the point where i couldnt open them, until id walked (blind) to the bathroom, found a flannel or similar (with my eyes closed) to soak them open.

In addition to Loratadine I use hayfever eye drops. I use either opticrom or boots hayfever eye drops, which is the chemical name sodium cromalgycate (or something like that)

It definitely helps.

I used to use it 1 - 2 hourly when symptoms were at there worst (The instructions say 4 times a day)
Now ive moved i use it 2 - 4 times a day

She needs to take the anti histamine every day not just when symptomatic, also at that age she can fexofenadine on prescription it's a game changer

Thank you. I've got some opticrom so I'll try that and if it doesn't help I'll speak to GP about fexofenadine. Thanks for the advice x
