Plastic warped in dishwasher

Hello, I have an 8 week old baby boy and accidentally put a plastic vegetable chopper in the dishwasher ( top shelf) which the plastic warped, online it dosent say what plastic it is made from just that it is BPA free, should I be worried about the potential fumes this melted plastic would have caused being toxic to baby? Or has anyone else had any similar experiences? I will definately not be putting anything like that in the dishwasher again! Thank you for your time and replies ☺️ extremely anxious about anything that could cause little one any harm! Feeling so bad for being so careless!

You’re overreacting baby is at no risk at all

That should be 5 year old

There’s two ways to look at plastic; ones that deform with heat (thermoplastics) and those that don’t (thermoset).

A thermoplastic has weak bonds been the polymer chains so these become soft when in contact with heat. Nothing is given off it’s not a chemical reaction, think of it like using ice cubes and spaghetti to make a tower then it raining which causes the ice cubes to melt. Then once the rain has stopped (the dishwasher stopped and heat decreased) the ice cubes refreeze with the spaghetti in a new pattern.

Why would it hurt an 8 week old baby? Did you put them in the dishwasher with it?

Your baby will come to no harm at all. You will have more toxic fumes walking along the road with baby in the pram.

What a cool explanation!
